I have to give it to Little Miss Sunshine, because I didn't want to kill myself after watching it. Royal Tenenbaums gets brownie boints for having an insanely awesome ensemble cast though.

I'm a big Wes Anderson fan, so I feel bad about it, but Little Miss Sunshine gets the nod for making me care about the characters more.

The Royal Tenenbaums simply seemed much more genuine movie to me whereas Little Miss Sunshine seemed to be much more generic. The characters in LIttle Miss Sunshine are made to be the way a dysfunctional family should be. The movie is supposed to be made in the style of an independent film while at the same time the substructure of it is that of Hollywood film. Little Miss Sunshine is not a bad film, it's simply more generic than the originality and functionality that Wes Anderson pours into each of his films. But of all of them, The Royal Tenenbaums is my favorite.

Maybe the two best American Dysfunctional Family indies. Today my answer is Tenenbaums.
