Tough call here. Grave of the Fireflies absolutely devastated me. Crushed me. Tore me to shreds. Not sure I'll ever be able to watch it again. Just too difficult to handle, emotionally. On the other hand, I could watch Cate Blanchett's transformation in this film a thousand times and never grow tired of it. The intrigue behind the throne is excellently played in Elizabeth. And Rush's Walsingham is one of the great samurai turns in modern cinema, IMO. STILL, I have to account for the pulverizing force of the narrative the GOTF delivers. So, GOTF by a micro margin...
