Melville and Mann - two sides of a coin. Personally, I'm a Woo man, but I'll go with Mann here.
Mann may be the director who made putting an oily blue cast on every frame of a film popular. Yuk. Heat's cool, but the Red Circle is so cool it hurts. Melwille wins.

Two great hesit films with great casts and from great directors. Le Cercle Rouge could one day become a favorite of mine, but as of now Heat is the only one of these two I'd consider a favorite.
