How is there no discussion here?! A visually stunning as Ran is, Rashomon was groundbreaking.
Shit just got real folks. Two Kurosawa masterworks right here. As of now I'm going with Rashômon, but that definitely could change down the road.

I get why people choose Rashomon, but Ran is perhaps THE most visually sumptuous live action film I have seen. The color palette is one of the most romantic and inspiring I have ever seen. So, for that reason, I do choose Ran, but I recognize why many would say Rashomon is the better film; it's tighter, more technical, and obviously more innovative.
Ran is the best Kurosawa film ever!
