Dog Day Afternoon vs. The Dark Knight

love both movies. But I have to go with the Dark Knight by the simple fact it's number one on my list. However I can't leave it at that without mentioning how much I like Dog Day Afternoon. The performances from Pacino and Cazale are amazing. For me the film is always a reminder of what everyone missed out on when Cazale passed in his prime. He delivers a performance that is so menacing and disturbing, and does it with little dialogue.

Both are brilliant, but I'll choose Dark Knight.

Dog Day is one of the most awesome films of the 1970's. Al Pacino's performance is probably better than Heath Ledger's in TDK. But of course The Dark Knight ties itself together perfectly.

Dog Day Afternoon is a staple of 70s cinema, and works on so many levels. It works as a thriller and a drama, yet isn't devoid of humour either. The performances that Cazale and Pacino give make for a masterclass in acting. Yet, I'm taking The Dark Knight here. It is just a bit more consistently entertaining, has the stronger characters and I'm guessing would work better with additional viewings.

The Dark Knight has a lot of great stuff, but it also has a lot of stuff that bothers me. Dog Day Afternoon is one of the greats though lead by a brilliant performance from Al Pacino. Easy choice for me.

Dog Day Afternoon! It is very close, though!

DDA ftw

TDK thumps Pacino...
