I watched A Single Man at the theatre without knowing much about it. I think I just wanted to see Julianne Moore with a 60s hairstyle (I think I have a fetish). I wasn't all that interested in the story, but I thought the movie was visually diverting. So yeah, any enjoyment I derived from A Single Man was purely superficial. Dead Man, though, is quite the experience. Nightmarish, darkly humorous, cool soundtrack... There are numerous scenes from Dead Man that I consider all-time favorites. The overall movie sort of leaves me cold, but there are some great individual moments. I walked around quoting the dialogue from the campfire confrontation for years.
