Yes, the original is better. The 1997 version is good, too, though. It's all in the source material, really.

Yep. It probably depends on which one you see first. I saw the original first so I prefer it. The remake is good too though due to some excellent casting choices. I'm not sure I'll ever watch it again though, because the original is the better telling of the exact same story.

Have to vote for the original but Jack Lemmon, George C. Scott , James Gandolfini and even Tony Danza make what should have been a bad idea to remake kind of cool.
