The Purple Rose of Cairo has a fantastic ending, but Crimes is probably the better film

It's amazing how good a Woody Allen film can be when you don't have his annoying on-screen persona around to muck it up. The Purple Rose of Cairo wins easily...
Agree with Caesar....Allen can pump out some great flicks. But I liked both of these immensely.
Gimme Crimes and Misdemeanours any day of the week. Purple Rose is pretty good, but Crimes knocks it out of the park.

Purple Rose is good, Crimes and Misdemeanors is great.

Crimes and Misdemeanors is Woody Allen's greatest film, so Purple Rose can't win this one. Purple Rose is a good film with a lot of Darkness. Crimes and Misdemeanors is both hilarious and dark. The existentialism in Crimes and Misdemeanors just takes it to a different level of over Allen movies.
