If you're going to get fired, you can go the easy way with a packet of information on dealing with redundancy with George Clooney being all sympathetic or you can get shot in the control room of the nuclear power plant you've taken hostage in order to tell the world that it's not safe. Up in the Air is anondyne. The China Syndrome is preachy. Up in the Air is also an attempt to make joblessness a feel good situation! It loses.

I said, it loses!

Up In The Air is a dramedy. It's main goal is to emphasize the importance of family and roots. George Clooney's character thought he had it all figured out but reality taught him new lessons. It easily wins this round.
