Sister Act vs. Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit

Wow. No comments? Ok. For me, it's the first one, easily. The second one is ok, but not as funny as some of the stuff in Sister Act.

I have no idea which is better, I haven't seen either in awhile, but I have a soft spot for Sister Act 2. I watched it more often and I enjoyed the music. And Lauryn Hill gives a good performance.

I mean, the kids in Back in the Habit are all talented performers, and with only a few scenes Sheryl Lee Ralph somehow managed to steal the film out from under everyone else's noses, but who thought it was a good idea to make a Sister Act sequel but with less of the nun stuff??? Whoopi barely gets a character arc in the second movie, while Maggie Smith, Wendy Makkena, Kathy Najimy, and Mary Wickes are brutally sidelined. There's also fewer musical numbers worth remembering, and none of the contrasts in tone—the convent vs the world of Deloris's mobster bf—that made the original so funny.
