Both are based off of the first book in a series. Both have turned into successful film franchises. Yet one is vastly, nay, infinitely better than the other. Why is this?

not a big fan of either of these series' but the idea of a school for witches and wizards were all sorts of dark and fantastical shit goes on is a lot better than pandering to fake teen angst and a sparkly toothless excuse for a vampire.
