Even having my criticisms of The Birds, its final scene is fantastically creepy. Nothing in Le samouraï stood out as well for me, excepting maybe the design of the apartment.
The Birds is good, but not among Hitchcock's best if you ask me. Le Samourai is Melville's best and it get the win here.

I wanted to hate Me Samourai, but I can't. My favorite French film of all time.
