Escape from the Planet of the Apes starts off pretty cool, but the rest of the film is wholly forgettable. Planet of the Apes is obviously the best of the original series of films in this franchise.
Escape from the Planet of the Apes is an interesting sequel (and certainly an improvement over Beneath), but it's not as good as the original.

You cannot ever beat the original. But Escape is the best of the 1970s sequels.

Though Escape is one of the better of the sequels, the original is far ahead of it in terms of story and social commentary.
