Black Narcissus vs. Cape Fear

Cape Fear may not be Scorsese's greatest masterpiece. But, I would argue that it is the greatest masterpiece of his long time editor Thelma Schoonmaker. Who, oddly enough, was married to one of the directors of Black Narcissus: Michael Powell. On a purely visual level, both of these films are highly impressive, with Narcissus taking a slight edge. But the uncomfortable gender and racial politics of the older movie diminish it slightly. Cape Fear is my choice.
