Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time vs. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Both of these movies seemed to have so much potential just from their source material - Percy Jackson with its foundation in a series of successful young adult fiction books and Prince of Persia as a very well established franchise of video games. Both fell flat for not doing all they could with rich and imaginative premises. Percy Jackson never seemed to come across as the epic that it seemingly was intended to be. For a story to be centered around a demigod child of Poseidon, things just seemed safe, small and cute. Prince of Persia, with its potential to mix fantasy in a historical setting with a touch of magic just felt like any other road comedy. The only thing that really set these movies apart was their casts - in which case Gyllenhaal, Arterton, Kingsley and Molina trump Lerman, Brosnan and Thurman. Also, Prince of Persia gets the quality bump from being produced by DIsney. Really, it's harder to say who wins here more than just identifying the less disappointing loser.
