Blue Ruin vs. Mud

Kind of similar in some plot elements. Both about a bum who killed or wants to murder the guy who harmed / killed the person(s) he loves (his parents / his old love) and the family of that guy wants to kill him / and he wants to kill that guy's family. Err, alright, I guess they're not THAT similar. But they're both about a bum, so that's something, I guess. Blue Ruin was excellent, just excellent. One of the best films I've seen this year. It's like Blood Simple meets Drive, the Coen Brothers' directorial style meets Nicolas Winding Refn's directorial style. That sounds like a strange combination, and to an extent it is, but it does work and it's awesome. Definitely give it a shot when you get the chance; it's the best shot and best directed film I've seen this year, and it's pretty funny as well. Really clever stuff. I didn't love Mud as much as most people, but it was definitely a good film. Blue Ruin was more my thing, though.

Both are good, but Mud is the better film due to production value.
