I'm not a big fan of movies about drunkards, or that star Jack Lemmon, but Days of Wine and Roses is better than Paris, Texas. For some reason, watching Harry Dean Stanton mope around for over two hours just isn't my brand of entertainment. By the time he stopped acting like a stray mental patient and made contact with Nastassja Kinski, I had long stopped caring. His story was the least interesting part of the film. Days of Wine and Roses at least made me feel something other than boredom, and the characters mattered to me more.
Days of Wine and Roses was more compelling.
