The Graduate vs. Vertigo

I agree with Ebert's reappraisal of The Graduate, circa sometime in the early 2000s. It has its humorous moments, but it hasn't held up well, and the characters were probably always too weak. Vertigo wins this one, though I disagree with Ebert and other critics and fans about whether it's an all-time great movie. Hitchcock doesn't usually resonate with me for whatever reason, nor does Jimmy Stewart.

The Graduate is definitely one of those "classics" in which I have no idea what all the fuss is about. While I don't consider Vertigo a great film either, I at least understand why it gets the praise it does. It's easily the better film here.

no contest Vertigo in a landslide
