Carl Sagan's neat idea to remake 2001; A SPACE ODYSSEY in a more realistic vein. He forgot that 2001 is realism, made by a filmmaker who did more the encapsulate the thrill of exploration than Sagan ever could -- all with one film. Feel free to disagree, but Kubrick had a bigger brain than Sagan -- and he makes Robert Zemeckis look like a total hack in comparison.
2001 was the ultimate space exploration flick. Contact was too pedestrian to win here.

Oops! I'm going with Contact. 2001 never quite grabbed me.

Contact: I thought it got the whole "feeling" 2001 was going for with less filler.
I'm not a huge fan of 2001....but man, it's easily better than Contact...
