Gangster Squad vs. Cowboys & Aliens

After watching Gangster Squad, the movie somehow reminded me of Cowboys & Aliens, and now I know why, after watching Mark Kermode's review. They are both so empty and hollow, and both stylized yet so artificial and meaningless. You get exactly what's in the trailer, but nothing. They do have fairly graphic violence, but it's there more for the flash. I did enjoy Gangster Squad considerably more though, because I liked the 1940s setting and I thought Sean Penn was entertaining as the villain. Cowboys & Aliens was kinda meh and more obviously artificial. I mean hell, you can exactly tell what the scenes set up for later. Harrison Ford: "HERE KID, HAVE THIS KNIFE". Guess what? Kid hurts an alien with it later. "HEY, LET ME TRAIN YOU HOW TO USE THAT GUN". Guess what? Sam Rockwell saves someone with it later. It's all so predictable. Gangster Squad wasn't, and it was the more entertaining of the two.

nothing more*

Gangster Squad is far, far superior to Cowboys & Aliens...
