Brave vs. How to Train Your Dragon

Probably the best comparison for Brave, since it reminded me a lot of HtTYD, probably due to the abundance of Scottish voice-actors and Celtic/Viking designs/imagery/landscapes. Both are very charming, beautifully animated and highly enjoyable, but I think the central concept and set pieces in HtTYD were more innovative than in Brave. It's funny, there were times where HtTYD felt more like a Pixar film while Brave felt more like a Dreamworks film, as it lacks the pinache and sophistication of most Pixar films. For that reason, HtTYD wins this match-up.

Well said, smatticus. I was having the many of the same thoughts as I watched Brave. Brave (like Cars 2) didn't seem to bring the trademark Pixar innovation to the table. The examination of a mother/daughter relationship was a noble attempt, but to me it just fell flat when compared to the parent/child stories told in previous Pixar flicks, especially The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.

Yep, HtTYD felt like Pixar and Brave felt like DreamWorks.

Ass. Both ass.
