shawshank and its not close

I know everyone loves The Shawshank Redemption but for me, it's too optimistic and sanguine for its own good, as it borders on being syrupy. I feel like you can cast the same message about hope without being so Hollywood with its depictions of good and bad (i.e. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). Sin City is on the other hand, is nothing more than a pulpy, grimy, stylized, gratuitously violent film noir, and succeeds damn well at it.

I LOVED Sin City. Shawshank destroys it...

Sin City for its originality and artistic take on film noir. I really liked Shawshank but I never could embrace its overly sentimental and in my opinion overrated narrative.
