Good 1969 matchup. Both have reaches that slightly exceed their grasps. Midnight Cowboy is narratively more forward-looking, but Easy Rider is more innovative in expression. Easy Rider wins.

Two absolute pieces of shit right here! These movies make me angry that I lost several hours of my life that I will never get back.

Not just in the fact I find both movies overrated but both movies here remind me of each other (characters on a cross country journey, they get in a bit of trouble, an extremely trippy third act and an unhappy ending). Even in filmmaking and pacing they sorta remind me of each other. Easy Rider is empty and aimless, saved by good directing and performances. Midnight Cowboy is kinda depressing but saved by good performances and some decent undertones. I prefer Midnight here but, for me at least, the New Hollywood period didn't really get going until Dirty Harry.
