Netflix Instant Watch New Releases and Updates
Studio-enforced 28 day rental moratorium opens for:
- Repo Men – Jude Law, Forrest Whitaker
- Batman: Under the Red Hood – Neil Patrick Harris
New to Netflix Instant Streaming this week:
*Stay tuned for next week. The new agreement between Netflix and the Premium cable channel EPIX begins and at least 600 new movies will be available on September 1st – at least half of them are legitimately good/interesting too.*
Streaming Pick of the Week:
Cruising (1980) – Al Pacino goes undercover in 1980 New York’s gay underground to catch a serial killer. There is definitely some stuff in here that could be considered “stereotyping” and “offensive” but it’s one hell of an interesting flick. It’s an amazing time capsule of how gays were viewed at the time. It makes a great double feature with The Detective (which is also on Netflix Instant Streaming), another movie about a cop and crimes that take place in the gay subculture of the the past. The Detective also gets bonus points for starring Frank Sinatra and being based on the book that introduced us to the character who would eventually be renamed “John McClain” for the Die Hard movies.
Tuesday August 24th:
- La Mission (2009) – Benjamin Bratt
- I Think We’re Alone Now (2008) – Documentary about two people obsessed with 1980’s pop star Tiffany
Friday August 27th:
- The Sweet Hereafter (1997) – Ian Holm, Atom Egoyan (dir.)
- The Left-Handed Gun (1958) – Paul Newman
- The Pick-Up Artist (1987) – Robert Downey Jr, Molly Ringwald
Saturday August 28th:
- Zero Effect (1998) – Ben Stiller, Bill Pullman

Abandoned – Brittany Murphy
2:22 – Val Kilmer
$5 a Day – Christopher Walken, Sharon Stone
