New on DVD, Blu-ray, Netflix and Warner Archive: September 28, 2010
Do you consider any of this week’s Blu-ray and DVD releases to be one of the Best Movies of All-Time?

How would you rank it amongst the best superhero movies of all time?
Flickchart Ranking: #1761 |
The first Iron Man was a lot of fun but this one fell into the common superhero movie sequel trap where there’s just too many people doing too many things to make a great, focused movie. Still pretty good though.
The Killer Inside Me (DVD & Blu-ray | R | 2010)

How would you rank it amongst the best crime dramas of all time?

The most interesting DVD release of the week. Casey Affleck and Jessica Alba in a “controversial” movie about what happens when you embrace your dark side.

Jonah Hill and Russell Brand in a well received comedy. Something about Russell Brand is instantly off-putting to me. I think it’s his beard.
Good (DVD & Blu-ray | R | 2008)

Very silly set-up (small group of friends trapped way up in the air on a ski lift for a few days while the park is closed) but it is winning a majority of its Flickchart battles…
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (DVD &Blu-ray | PG-13 | 2010)

How would you rank it amongst the best adventure movies of all time?
Flickchart Ranking: #554 |
#17 on my list of the best movies of all time, which frankly, is a little low. I refused to watch “old”, black and white movies until I finally saw this when I was seventeen. It literally change my life and turned me into the adventurous two-movie-a-day watcher I am today.
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (Criterion DVD & Blu-ray | NR | 1983)

David Bowie in a war movie. Simply put, David Bowie doesn’t take part in bad movies.

I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never seen this movie before. I love Terrence Malick’s films but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Thankfully, Criterion is around to help me see the error in my ways.

It’s a bit of a down week for the Warner Archive. Nothing really catches my eye as a “Must Buy” but still some intriguing stuff. Take a look for yourself:
