I really like your top ten. :)

Can you please tell me your thoughts on Act of Killing? I've wanted to see it for a year, but haven't been able to find it anywhere. :)

It's fine. I'm not worried that you didn't see it. Thanks for answering. :)

I don't really care if you don't like my top ten, it's cool. :) Anyway, six of your top ten are in my top 100, and are all tens. So it doesn't matter.

Thanks for your thoughts on Act of Killing.

My top 100 or so is accurate. But it gets more and more iffy as it goes down. There quite a few I want to change around. Did you love The Hunt and Before Midnight? I really want to see both.

I'm sure I would, but it would be hard without knowing your taste in films very well. Plus there isn't any point checking your list because you said it was out of order. I recommend films all the time. I try my very best to find the right movies. Maybe if you narrow it down a bit and tell me some genres, and sub-genres you like, then I could try and recommend some. :)

I own The Hunt, so i'm really excited to see it. I'm a big fan of the first two Before movies.

Okay, this could be funny! :D First guess, hmmmm. Well, considering what I said in my other comment, it would be funny if you actually are an Aussie! :D You answered me three hours ago, that could work time zone wise. It would just have to be an Eastern State. So yeah, I will say Aussie with my first guess. :)

Yes, I know that. It just worked with my line of thinking at the time. Doesn't matter, I was wrong. :D

I've got three countries in mind. I don't know why, but they're America, Egypt, and Germany. I have a German friend, so that may be why that comes to mind. But that would fit too nicely. I will say Egypt. This is a fun guessing game. :)

Exactly? There wasn't much thought really. My thought process was pretty much what I wrote down. Why I picked Egypt? I don't know, I could of easily picked America. I don't know much about what time it would be over in Egypt or places around there. But I know that Ireland and England may be a bit early for you to be from there. You see, I talk to people from both countries, but they haven't talked to me today, so that's why I ruled those countries out.

I liked Hawking, the most amazing thing about it is Benedict Cumberbatch's performance, worth watching it just for him.
If you like the story of Much Ado, and 'get' the Shakespearean language, you will probably enjoy it. It's very charming, Whedon captures the spirit of the tale well. Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof are great in it.

I'm a curious person. Is there much corruption in Egypt? There was terribl corruption in the Aussie police force in the 90's. Not as much now, but you never know! Our politicians are always corrupt, but I guess that's the same everywhere?

Well, that's just shit. I'm sorry to hear that it's like that. It does seem like it happens frequently: you get rid of a government, only to get one worse than the last. Like Idi Amin.

We get corruption more on a much less serious scale to Egypt. Just the politicians that claim allowances that they shouldn't, and make the taxpayers pay for it. Numerous weirdos as well. One guy was caught sniffing a chair of a woman's chair. He's the treasurer!!

I think it was already going to change. I think it was a coicidence that I made a new comments page just before. I did have a hand in the change to one comment at a time through talking to Caesar, who then talked to Zampa. Personally, I would of been fine with 20 to 30 comments to be shown.....but I'm not going to complain. It's better than not being able to use it at all, like it was for me initially.

I think I liked Before Midnight the most out of the three. It's very close between the first two, but I give a slight edge to the third. The conversations are interesting because they have been together so long. To me, it nearly felt like I was invading people's privacy. :D I gave it a 4.5/5 on letterboxd. Have you seen it?

Less noise, but it does get boring. Nice view I guess. There's Karri trees as far as the eye can see. I'm actually worried this year about fires. They haven't been able to do many controlled burns this year, so all the fuel on the ground has built up. One bad fire could wipe our town out.

0 people liked this  √

shane24 on 12/23/2013 Reply  ·

I think you're underestimating how large the Karri forest is. Every direction I look, there's Karri trees. There is no way of fully preparing in the time they have. Also, some of the controlled burns are just as bad. The wind sent a burn too far two years ago. It nearly took out everybody's summer homes. Very dangerous. Some people don't even want them to do burns- you know, save the trees and all that. However, it's totally necessary, I don't get how they don't see it.

Haha! I will try my best not to die Ali. :)

Is it true that there is a lot of garbage near the pyramids?

0 people liked this  √

shane24

shane24 on 12/23/2013 Reply  ·

Well, D.E.C (Department of Environment and Conservation) hasn't been able to do controlled burns because of bad weather, so all the leaves and branches have collected on the ground to make fuel for a fire. now that it's summer, the chances of a fire is much higher.

They can't chop it down. There is millions of trees, it would be impossible. One reason is because a lot of is National Park. Another is because of hippies. There would be an outrage. Plus the trees are a major tourist attraction, so it will never happen.

I heard that garbage is purposely being dumped there in mounds.

Why's is there garbage everywhere? Nobody collects it?

It there many crazy drivers in Egypt? The closest city to me is the capital of Australia for road rage. :D

In Perth (that's the city I mentioned ^), 51 houses were destroyed in the last few days from bush fires, causing $13 million damage. One man died on his roof from a heart attack whilst fighting the fire. I'm pretty sure their hadn't be any controlled burns to get rid of fuel in a long time. It's a reminder of the danger we're n down here as well.

Yeah, you see, there would be confusion if I used theatre. People would think I was talking about a play. I know, because my cousin writes and acts in plays, so when i say that I'm going to see my cousin at a theatre, there hasn't been confusion. I've never heard anybody call it the "cinema of Australia", just the "Aussie film industry".

I watched the 169 minute version of The Act of Killing. I thought it was just amazing. It's funny, scary, confronting, and informs us of a massacre that we're really not that familiar with. I don't know about other countries, but it's not talked about down here at all. It's amazing watching the lies people tell themselves to cope.

Well served Oscar nomination. The crew have risked their lives to bring us this doc, so it would be good to see them win. It would even be better if it lead to change.

Loved 12 Years a Slave. Great acting, but it was brutal seeing the lashings. It's not that long ago really that this awful shit was happening.

Having a chip on your shoulder is a saying when somebody has a grudge or grievance. Some people walk around with a permeant chip on their shoulder.

Ah, sorry mate, I don't want to say what I do over the Internet. It's quite a specific job, I can say that. :)

I'm mad because I found a long strand of hair in a chocolate covered apricot today. I'm glad I found it before it went in my mouth.

Shit, I'm very sorry to hear that, Ali. Stay safe, mate.....are you serious? Turns the virus into kofta?! :O Why say something like that?! I need to hear more stories like this, it's eye opening.

What can I say after that. Not much is happening compared to the trouble you guys are having. The big debate at the moment is whether to cull sharks to prevent them attacking people. I think that over fishing is actually to blame. They take too much, so the great white sharks come closer to the beach for a food supply. I understand that people must be protected, but there is technology now that works very well in repelling sharks that the government won't spend money on. So, the sharks will be a problem, even if they cull them. Plus it's their territory, their rules. People on beaches fishing don't help, either. I saw a guy fishing throw fish guts in the water to attract sharks. 50m up from him were five 10 year olds swimming! What a bloody dickhead.

I'm excited for The Rover, Raid 2, Godzilla, Interstellar, and my cousin's movie The Little Death. :) I see what you mean about classics to catch up with....you have some great movies in your list of shame to see. :)

Ah, my Egyptian friend, Ali! Good to hear from you. How am I going? Have we talked about my injury? I know we haven't talked about me being promoted. :) How are you? Enjoying some films?

It was a bad injury, yes. I was walking along, then my leg up to my hamstring (remember, I'm six foot six, that's a long length), went through a small, faulty floorboard. My leg on both sides were scraped, and very, very badly bruised. I didn't even hit the ground. It was the my hamstring that took the brunt of the impact. Now, because my feet are so big (size 16 American), I couldn't get it out of the hole. I finally got it out, and then stood up. This is when I realised how serious it was. The rush of pain was intense. I'm not a big swearer. I think people overuse the words. So, when I say any, people know I'm bloody serious. So, when I stood up, and tried to walk, I let out a very loud "fuuuucccckkkk!!!!". My boss was in the distance. I yelled to her to get over here. She came, and said "oh". :/ Blood pissing out of my shin, and she says "oh". It get's even better! When I had my leg up, and was icing it, she said to me "oh, I saw that board last week"..........:O She said that about five times to me! Now Ali, seeing how I just gone through the said floorboard, do you really think I would want to hear how she saw it last week, and failed to act on it?!

That happened around Feb 10, and I'm still not 100%. I was in pain for about three weeks. I went and had an ultrasound, and they found a hematoma in my leg just below my knee. It wasn't hurting me, once all the pain went, but the area is still swelling around it. Imagine that it looks like I have an orange under my skin. I'm taking pills, but it's actually natural medicine that has been working the best! I take two Arnica tablets, then rub Arnica cream on the area, and the bloody swelling is all gone in 25 minutes! The stuff is brilliant!

I even had to play my basketball grand final with an injured leg. We bloody lost.

What's annoying about my workplace is that they didn't even ask how I was until I requested to see a doctor. The manager was five metres away from me, and he said nothing! But, as soon as I need workers compensation for the ultrasound, and doctor visits, all of a sudden they want all the details. It was only then that she was told off for not fixing the problem. Dicks.

This leads sort of into my promotion. She doesn't know it yet, but I have been told I will be replacing her as the boss in charge. Not because of that incident, but because she's terrible at her job. She always makes mistakes. Doesn't manage problems, can't keep track of things, and is really unorganised. I was sitting in her office on Friday, and the mess is everywhere. Despite all this, I still feel guilty for taking her job. I would prefer the job being vacant.

What film have you enjoyed the most since we last talked, buddy?

What music are you into?

I have actually seen my 4000th film. It was a stand-up show by Greg Fleet. It was a special viewing, because I had dinner with him on Monday night. :) He's my cousin's new boyfriend. Great guy! Has had a troubled life, but has turned things around. I was impressed by him. Just a normal guy, wasn't trying to big not himself. He made jokes, but none of them were like "hey, look at me, I'm a comedian!!". I was very impressed. My cousin and Greg will be writing a show together- she's a comedian as well. :) His actual stand-up show was called Thai Die. It was the true story of how he was kidnapped when he visited Thailand. My cousin also told me that her sister (also my cousin obviously) is in talks to turn her play into a film. It would be large scale, with Vietnam scenes included.

Thanks mate. :)

I'm only aware of Amour of the films you mentioned. I will look them up. :)

I'm all over the place with Allen films. I can love them, or really dislike them.

I personally don't think you should miss out if your siblings won't go. If that rule is in place, they should be making sure they make it easy. Can you go without them finding out? :)

I know more than I mentioned as well. :)

Did I ever get you to read my cousins life story? It'll take a few minutes, but I would really appreciate you taking the time buddy. :)

Here's the link

I like rock, and some metal. I don't like it too hardcore- definitely not death metal. Cool! I will give the band a listen to after I finish this podcast. :) I will have to find some Aussie rock bands for you. Some might not work for you, because some of it is very Australian in it's style. We call it pub rock. :)

I'm curious. Is mainstream American music listened over there in the majority? Or does Egypt have a strong music industry?

You will have to comment here again. My page isn't working.

I checked out that band you recommended. I like some of the songs, but I will go back to it. To be honest, I haven't listened to much music in another language, so it'll take some getting used to. One I heard I really liked, but I can't remember the title at the moment. :)

Oh cool! I didn't know Egypt had such a music scene.

What else is happening over there? Anything positive?

Life is pretty good. I had a promotion at work, and now I'm in charge. Going to the cinema this week to watch a bunch of films.

I'm pretty good Ali, how about you?

I'm playing basketball, getting a job promotion (more money, but also more hassles), had a huge bit of wood dropped on my finger (300 x 130 2.7m) by an idiot, and just enjoying the nice weather.

That's fine. I appreciate that you get back to me when you can. :) What films have you been seeing that you have a strong opinion on? Whether that is for liking, or disliking. :)

Ah I see you watched Animal Kingdom. What did you think?

It's summer time here, but we're still getting some rain. Do you get heaps of flies over there? Driving me mad down here. Although, not as much as the English people, they're not used to them. :)

Not built for winter? I assume it would be warm most of the time over there. I can see it getting very cold at night, though. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Ah, Le Samourai ,the movie that has eluded me for years! I'm glad you liked it. Can you go into more details about Fury? I was going to see it this weekend along with John Wick, Interstellar, and Kill the Messenger.

Still thinking about Calvary, sorry. :) I did like it, though. It's just an odd little film.

Anything crazy happening over there? Our Prime Minister threatened to shirtfront Vladimir Putin over that plane that was shot down. He is such an embarrassment!

Cool, I learned something. :) I had never really thought about what the weather would be like over there, so I like that I know know from a very good source. :)

All of those seem like good reasons to notmlike Fury. I have plans with somebody, so i'll still be seeing it.

Cracked roads help? Hahaha! Man, that's so stupid!

Well, shirtfront is a reference to an act in our football league, which is the only place in the world it's played professionally. A shirtfront is when someone hits somebody in the head with their body, usually after running at them. Putin probably would deserve that, but you don't say that when you represent a country. Anyway, Putin would massacre him. He used to be a spy, so he would know how to fight.

Will you be attending the festival?

I'm a Nolan fan, so I tend to enjoy his films. I think you will have a hard time with some of the things in Interstellar. Some of the imagery is reminiscent of Inception. I was kinda hoping for a grander scale than what we got. I gave it a 4.5/5 on Letterboxd, and I feel like it may improve on rewatch.

What social things are there to do in Egypt? Anything unique to the country?

I didn't get angry at Fury like you did. :) Some VERY predictable character, though.

Went to the city on the weekend. There was a murder 500m away from where I was staying. Other than that, not much! Got a promotion at work, my finger is nearly fixed from being squished by a sleeper (not from work), and work will be four days, instead of five soon. Happy about that! :) Longer days don't bother me if I get a long weekend every week. :)

Ever heard of Oofty Goofty?

Nah, we're not very unique socially. We don't like to say it, but we're very similar to the yanks with most things we do. Although, we go about them very differently. Aussie do love a chat and a beer around the fire at night.

Well, about the same amount of crime as in most mid sized cities.

I don't like work. So, the less days I'm there, the better.

Watching Tim do dots on a carpet was really interesting to watch. The determination was amazing. I couldn't do it.

London! Tell me how you go if you do, mate.

Have you seen Le Samourai? I finally got the chance to see it, and man, did I love it! Just suits me perfectly. De on is perfect casting for the emotionally blank hitman character. Jean Peirre Melville sure knew how to make a quality film.
