Hey Shane,

Yes, when I emailed Nathan earlier today, he brought up the hiding of older comments and just showing the two most recent ones. I thought it was a good solution for those who have a lot of comments, but perhaps showing something like, say, 10 comments would work better than just two.

Do you have only have problems when you hit the "View earlier comments" button, or is your page loading slow before then?

I'm surprised you were bullied/mocked! I didn't think someone like you could be. For me, it isn't very difficult. The people who did bully me were from my own country. So, that's worse. No one else bullies nor says anything slightly rude. Just a couple from my own country. Since one of the three bullies left, the other two are inert!

My previous comments were about asking you if you had seen the Worlds End, and how my Dad really hates Dumb and Dumber and his opinions have dripped into me, despite never having seen the film.

Went to get my Christmas tree today, and omg, saw that girl from Intermission who had the moustache and did the news report thing. It was pretty cool. Not sure if it really was her, as she only looked like she was in her early twenties, if not younger. How old do you think she if in Intermission? She has to be a certain age, considering she has a root with the porn addict at the end. :)

Oh, this page is fine. Your other one took a while to load. I like quotable dialogue too. Except when it doesn't fit the movie. It's like the difference between Bond and Bourne: you don't really expect Bourne to be snapping off quippy one-liners (ok, he did a few times).

I'm pretty sure atheists can understand the plot of Last Temptation; some of the concepts explored in it are universal. Though it is nearly three hours, so your attention may drift (or it may not, Scorsese is pretty great).

I guess you saw I added Blue Valentine on iCheckMovies, right? I just noticed that I hadn't checked it on some top list. I only saw it once on March 2012. I liked Williams, but thought Gosling was trying too hard, and liked the story idea of a disintegrating marriage. That's about all I recall, sorry.

I had mixed feelings about Carnage. The actors are all good, but they're let down by the dialogue. The movie's set in one apartment for nearly the entire running time, but the reasons for that become increasingly contrived. I suppose there are some interesting and funny moments in the movie (the four characters get increasingly hostile to each other), but there's also a lot of boring points. Polanski has done better.

Yeah, I think I may start commenting here for a while.

When Fargo started and I heard Martin Freeman doing the accent I squealed. He is glorious in that freakin' show, dude.

I saw your comment on my Letterboxd list, figured I should answer it here.
The Winter Soldier kicks ass. The best Marvel movie. So intelligent and well-made. I love Steve Rogers as a character, now. He's the closest thing we have to a true superhero in this day and age of superhero films. He doesn't brood, he doesn't moan, he doesn't give up and he doesn't go on and on about "destiny" or "purpose" and other meaningless buzzwords. Yet he's still a really interesting and complex character. Meanwhile, DC is trying to make Superman relatable and are doing a pisspoor job of that! Ah, well. At least we've still got good Marvel movies. I love Phase 2 so far!

Your thoughts on Cap 2? How about Spider-Man? Or Noah? Or Pee-Wee?

I thought Kevin was generally a character study about the parent of a school shooter, and I think Tilda Swinton gave a very good performance. However, sometimes it was a bit too arty/pretentious/vague at times, and I was wondered what the director was trying to communicate.
Umbrellas, well, having the characters sing the dialogue was an interesting idea, but it didn't do that much for me in the end. It's very colorful (but then so is the Wizard of Oz). Oh, I liked the story. It's a bit simple, but bittersweet.
Anyway, I'm not sure if my current scores for them are reflective of my feelings. I guess they sorta work as intended, but maybe they could've been better. I can always change them.

Thanks, I've seen a good amount of those docs. Saw Raising Arizona today, dissapointed me. It was funny but the plot was messy and it was honestly boring at times. It's normally hit or miss with me for the coen brothers. I LOVED miller's crossing and the big lewbowski. No country was perfect until the ending, which I think sucked. Inside llewyn davis was pretty great. You a big fan of their movies?

spoilers in this review type of thing for amazing spider man 2
alright just got back from seeing it I actually really enjoyed it I thought it was better than the first from Amazing Spider Man I do agree there are some flaws with it I guess this is kinda a spoiler but I was disappointed with Paul Giamatti's character as rhino the scene was only like 5 minutes and I do agree their are some pretty goofy and annoying scenes in their but other than that I really enjoyed it a lot more going on in it some surprises I did not expect I really like Jamie Foxx's character the most in the film as electro as this person who nobody cares about and gets back at everyone
I wish that there was one last piece of dialogue with spider man before he died and again there were some surprises at the end like when Emma Stone's character dies so ya I really enjoyed the film other than my complains with it

Yes, you are correct, it's a page making fun of the M. Night "Signs", which is kinda how I feel about that movie. I thought the other Signs was cute, though maybe a tad artificial. According to Flickchart, I saw it about two years ago, and I don't remember much else. *shrug*

I've been well,I've been too lazy to watch a lot of new movies lately,but I started listening to a lot more music lately.

I liked Noah,I know there are a lot of people bitching that it wasn't completely faithful to the source material,but I don't really have a problem with that.Everything that was added made the movie more dramatic and suspenseful.I kind of liked Aronovsky's style and might check out Pi.Is it worth my time?

Hey Shane remember when we were talking about how do I handle violence well I just got done watching the Scorsese short film called The Big Shave I don't know if you heard of it it's about just a guy shaving and cutting him self while he does it so the whole time I'm watching it I'm cringing up into a ball while watching close ups of him cutting himself while he shaves I don't know why but I've always had a fear of people cutting them selfs while they have I don't know why

I had mixed feelings about ASM2. I think it's a step up from Webb's first effort, though that felt like a bland remake of Raimi's first Spider-Man. However, ASM2 did feel too overcrowded, jumping from plot thread to thread, without coming up with anything memorable *and* wearing out its welcome. I thought the Gwen subplot was sweet, though. Overall it felt average compared to other superhero movies (nothing really bad in it, but it doesn't really strive for anything). I prefer Raimi's trilogy.

I thought all the motives of his enemies made sense. Electro was sorta like Elliot Rodger--people didn't pay any attention to them, they suffered from extreme loneliness and possible mental health issues, they began to obsess over something they couldn't have (having a girlfriend/Spider-Man). When they got lethal power, they became dangerous and hurt people back.

Osborn was set to suffer from the same fate as his father, having this terminal disease or whatever it was--unless Spider-Man gave him a blood transfusion, which was the only way Osborn would be cured. Spider-Man refuses to give him his blood (and doesn't even tell him why), which is giving him a death sentence. I think you would be upset under those circumstances.

Rhino was sent to prison by Spider-Man and wanted revenge on him. Perhaps the sequel will expand on that.

The reason they made the movies is because of money, right? Which fuels pretty much every production... they're going to make Spider-Man movies regardless, and I'd rather not have Sam Raimi direct if he was bored of it.

I don't know what the Sinister Six is.

I loved guardians, funny, emotional, charming and great characters. But lame villian. Cap 2 is still the better superfilm of all the ones this year. Guardians close behind. I was wondering what you feel about 3D. I HATE it and ruined the guardians experience for me. So when I get back from vacation im watching movie again in 2D before adding it on flickchart

Yeah, I knew that wasn't Mad Dog. I only knew because I read that he was in it but was playing a different character. A lot of people got confused with that though, including my friend when we watched it. I would most likely have too if I didn't read about that beforehand.

Hah Yeah, I wouldn't be extending my shoulder out of respect to that fucker either, he showed Rama none pulling out those knives the dirty little fucker! :D

Were they protecting him? Damn I can't remember man, maybe they were just getting close to him or something or it was an elaborate ruse to gain his trust? I don't know, I'll have to see it again. I'm terrible at remembering these things evidently.

I am of the same opinion, that women who start messing with their faces usually can't stop at one procedure and it makes them look alien and unnatural for their age. You can't reverse the ageing process, it should be embraced.....but women are put under a lot of pressure I guess.
I love how Helen Mirren looks, I would be happy if I looked like her when I'm over 50! She has a natural grace about her, and Cate Blanchett has that too.

I was sad to hear the news about Robin Williams this morning. It was so, so weird........last night before I went to sleep I watched TV in bed, it was an episode of Family Guy on BBC3 that had the storyline that whoever Peter touched, turned into Robin Williams in one of his acting guises(bearded serious Robin, fun zany Robin etc).......and then to wake up to that news, I was seriously freaked out.
It's so terribly sad. I used to watch old re-runs of Mork and Mindy as a kid, I absolutely loved that show. I really liked him in Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, Awakenings and Death to Smoochy too. And Mrs Doubtfire :)

The two on the left are actually old friends of my father from Boston. The fellow was his former co-worker he would go to the movies with all the time (they saw The Big Lebowski together, if my memory serves correct) and the female individual beside him is his wife.

Thanks! I love the shirt too! I found it in a shop in Milan that had all different shirts in the same style. They had one of Alex and his droogs, Vincent and Jules in the apartment, Doc and Marty. I also got a Full Metal Jacket hoody.

I'll assure you that there was nothing but 7up in that pint glass. Alcohol tastes really gross to me. I don't enjoy ingesting it.

haha I'm not quite at the point where I'm ready to be done with the pregnancy. I'm sure this time next month I'll be singing a different tune. ;) ha unfortunately, I'm not done with work yet, so progress is still going at a snail's pace. They asked me to stay a week longer than I planned, and like a sucker I said yes. :P But, work feels a little easier to bear, since it feels like I'm there as a favor haha

So far, Dorian Gray wasn't what I was expecting, but whatevs. It's SUUUPER pompous haha! I picture that character looking like a youthful, innocent-looking, bigger-eyed version of Tom Cruise :D

Oh, that's right, you guys get movies a bit later than we do. :D Nice! I hope the play rules! Yeah...I think it was a part that would normally make me cry, it just felt way more intense than it should have haha What kind of random moments have you teared up on in movies?

I watched the new The Little Death trailer. Wow. Looks very funny. I laughed at the foot fetish joke because of the great delivery. Looks like it has some really great comedic timing. I already saw it in an earlier clip, but I love that hepatitis role play! :D

Expendables 3 was pretty bad, man. I don't see the fun in it. It was pretty horrible, and it rewarded characters for murdering strangers for no reason. I dunno, I know I shouldn't be taking it too seriously, but it just really didn't sit well with me.

I haven't seen the previous Expenables films. I only saw the third because of bad timing and missing screenings and whatnot.
Have you seen the other Expendables films? What do you think of them?

I'll check out Guardians hopefully in the next few weeks. Hopefully. I heard Howard the Duck is in it, so that's tipped me over into really really wanting to see it. :)

It is a strange thought! I don't know how I'd feel, but I agree with you that the sex is pretend but the nekkidness is real, and that could be uncomfortable to see couldn't it! I guess I would just watch, but look away if I felt weird about anything, ha.

I thought Locke was pretty good. Tom Hardy really gives a good performance and he definitely was up to the challenge of carrying the film since pretty much the entire film takes place in his car and only the voices of the other characters are heard during phone calls. My only complaint is that I was under the impression that the movie was going to be much more gripping and suspenseful when it really wasn't. Otherwise I quite enjoyed it. This isn't really a movie with mainstream appeal but serious film lovers should enjoy it.

I also thought it was pretty cool that they filmed the movie in real time with the other actors in a studio actually calling Tom Hardy and delivering their lines while they were filming.

I am not a big fan of movie comedies - tv comedy shows on the other hand I adore, which are your favorites? So stepbrothers was okay, there were some funny moments but nothing speciel. Comedy moviesthat I love are rush hour series, jump street series and especially the Intoucables. An amazing film and hilarious. Would really recommend it. Bumped over it didn't get at least a nomination for best foreign film. Strangelove is funny as well but it was more of the other stuff in the movie that placed to movie so high on my list. What are your best comedies youve seen?

Just watched the Nightcrawler trailer, wow I'm really interested in this movie......I got an American Psycho vibe from it too.

The funny thing is, The Hateful Eight isn't filming. Yet. There's literally no footage for it, but somehow there's still gonna be a 1 minute 43 second trailer coming out in two weeks.

I don't have much interest in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, because I know basically nothing about it. Would you recommend it? Would you want me to go in completely blind or research it a bit beforehand?

I loved Serpico. Just a really well-put-together movie. Al Pacino was great, and Sidney Lumet. Holy cow. What a director. You like him? I like him a hell of a lot. I've seen 3 films of his: 12 Angry Men, Serpico and Network. All great.

I can see why you'd move The Raid 2 down Shane, but I'm still happy you loved it :) I re-watched it again and it's apparent, to me at least, that the second half is really where it steps up. The first half is littered with cool fight scenes but it's only when the hammer girl, baseball bat man and assassin fights take place that the movie really gets in gear.

So, you got any plans to see anything soon buddy? :)

Been off the grid for a while! :D I was in Galway last week and only got back on Sunday, so I was unable to watch anything or get on Flickchart/Letterboxd unfortunately. Back now though so I'll get back to watching movies and having discussions with you :)

I really liked the baseball bat guy and hammer girl. It'd be cool if we got to see some more of them in The Raid 3 or we got a bit of an origin story for them, but can't see that happening and it might take away some of the mystery around them so it may be best left untouched.

I've been meaning to re-watch In the Mood for Love. The last time I seen it I felt the same way you're feeling now; disconnected. A lot of the slow motion and fleeting moments and glances just left me bored to be honest. It had its moments though so I'll give it another go some time.

I hope you enjoy Guardians! I really think you will :)

I'm back on Letterboxd now Shane :) Boondock Saints 2 added last night - not very good so it wasn't! :D

Louie was pretty funny. I don't really watch stand-ups that often but it was short and I was in the mood for a laugh and gave it a go. So yeah, it was pretty funny :)

Machete Kills I didn't really like. Mel Gibson was the only good thing about it in my opinion. Him playing crazy was entertaining and he seemed like he was having a lot of fun whereas the rest of the film just felt boring any time he was off screen. Even the violence/action felt boring to me.

Guardians I really liked! It's got a great soundtrack that I think will really work for you :) Chris Pratt is very good, the action scenes are shot very well, even Drax, who I thought would be the most boring character, was surprisingly funny! Some of it feels like familiar territory but there's enough wackiness to the characters and setting that it feels pretty fresh. My only problem was Zoe Saldana, didn't think her character was interesting at all really which is a little disappointing. But the rest of the 'Guardians' were great. I'm finding it hard to say much about it actually without spoiling stuff. I'll just say that it embraces the absurdity and it's all the better for it, probably Marvels most 'fun' film yet so I hope, and expect, you to enjoy it :) Get back to me when you see it buddy and we can talk more spoiler-y about it :)

I love the action in The General. Fantastically, choreographed, and it complements the slapstick excellently. Few films get by purely on spectacle for me. The General would if it didn't also have it's own great emotional core. Great film.

My Flickchart is a mess right now (I'm waiting for Flickchart 2), so I'll go by my Letterboxd list: I've got Stage Fright 24th out of the 32 Hitchcock films I've seen. To me, it's either a weak three stars or a strong two and a half. So, yeah, I didn't think it was very good. Hitchcock definitely made a lot of clunkers.

I believe the guys work on Flickchart 2 in their spare time, so there's no timetable for when it'll be done. I can't imagine it'll be much longer, though.

Nathan has never said anything at all about the new Flickchart being a pay site, so I wouldn't worry about that.

That play sounded great, man! What was it like knowing Fleety personally and then seeing him onstage?

When I was on holiday in America, I went to a local high school production of Little Shop of Horrors, because the American's I was staying with knew one of the kids in it. It's was very well-done (especially the monster) but I got a nosebleed halfway through!!! I had to go to the bathroom in the lobby and clean myself up cause I had no tissues!!! :O
When I came back into the theatre, all the characters who were dead were suddenly back to live and singing onstage. Needless to say, I think I missed a fairly important development! It was hilarious walking out of the show surrounded by people I didn't know in a shirt covered in my own blood! :D
Maybe you had to be there, but their reactions were priceless!

Oh, yeah. I saw a play yesterday too! Look up "Ballyturk written and directed by Enda Walsh" on youtube. It's a very strange, abstract play about Cillian Murphy and Mikel Murphy pretending to act out how everyone in the fictional town of Ballyturk dies, until one of them is eventually forced to face death himself (played by Stephen Rea!) Holy moly, the energy onstage is amazing. They do these elaborate dance routines and bouncy conversations with to-the-second precise timing. And whoa. Cillian Murphy was better in this than he's been in any of his films. And I love him in his films!!! :D Amazing! Everyone else is great as well. I really hope the play catches on and gets made different places around the world, cause it's something you can only experience.

anyway, Denmark and USA policy. Even though our politicians are messed up as well, we do have pretty fine benefits. Free education, free hospitals (as in we do not have to pay to get treatments), if we get sick and cant work a lot of help is given, pregnant women can take a 6month off from work and still get paid while being away, and everyone is equal no matter how good you are and how much money you have :P

I've started watching Chris Pratt in Parks & Recreation, I find him hilarious!

Inbetweeners 2 was a pretty good laugh, but one joke fell completely flat for me(no-one in my cinema laughed at it, it was stony silence!) and some of it was just ok. But it was a fun night at the cinema :) I see we scored it the same! How did you find it, have you been to any of the locations?

I might see Lucy this week or next. It looks like one of those unrealistic movies where you have to suspend your disbelief, would that be accurate? As long as there's some good action in it I'll be happy!

I've gotten used to them using generic action music for a lot of these superhero/blockbuster movies. There may be one or two slipping my mind, but The Avengers and Iron Man 3 had good music for the action scenes from what I can remember. The rest of the Marvel movies had the generic action scene music. At least from what I remember, I could be wrong.

The biggest complaint for me was probably Zoe Saldana, thought she was a fairly boring and uninteresting character. The rest of them were great though.

Yeah,the more I think about it,the more i think I might care more about the characters in Guardians than Avengers.But Avengers is still mah' favorite,there's just something so awesome about Iron Man shooting his repulsor-rays of Captain America's shield,hittin' the bad-guys! Yeah, I agree with what you're saying about the music. Especially for GOTG, a lot of it felt fresh and different so adding unique musical choices to the action is something that should've definitely been done I think.

Her first interaction with Quill was very good! :) I hope they build on her character a bit in the second film, she felt very flat to me in this one. In fact, I'm not sure Marvel have made a truly interesting female character yet. Black Widow would probably be the closest. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh? I'm probably being a whiny asshole Shane aren't I? :D

No, the Jay part at the start did get laughs, not lots but it did make us chuckle.

The joke that didn't work was the dolphin and Neil! When it turned up its flippers there was no reaction from the audience whatsoever! On paper, it sounds like a funny joke, but translating it onscreen made it lose the comedy, I felt.
When they ran over the squirrel in the tv series, that was funny and tragic at the same time, but the dolphin thing just didn't work! Did your audience laugh?

I loved Rocket and Groot too! That's very true about the Star Wars parallel :) I didn't know about the dog being a Guardian until I read up about it afterwards!

The after credits scene was a sort of 'is that it' for me and my brother.........we didn't really get into Howard the Duck much, so it didn't have an effect. I was disappointed there was no Avengers 2 teaser!
My friend who went to see it said there was one guy in his cinema who lost it when Howard the Duck appeared, got all excited and was like 'fuck yeaaahhhh' at the screen, haha. I guess it was one for a certain type of Marvel fanboy/girl :D

I did think that Groot would have some sort of sprout/offshoot that would grow again. I loved dancing Groot at the end, and to my favourite Jackson 5 song, like you said, it was pure joy!

It is a shame that the Hooked on a Feeling 'ooga chaka' wasn't done in the same way as in the trailer! I remember thinking you would be disappointed!
I love listening to 'Come and get your Love' and 'Fooled around and Fell in Love' from the soundtrack, it's such a good listen!

I like Parks & Recreation so far, it has a comedy documentary style vibe like The Office, and all the cast are good.....I think it will grow as the series goes on, I'm only half way through season one at the moment.

Tombstone was pretty good.I thought there were a lot of cheesy parts,but there were a lot of cool parts too,so it kind of evened out :) And Doc Holliday...that is a cool character.

What do you think of Clint Easteood as a director? I'm checking out more of his films and would like to get your thoughts on him.

Well, you highlighted performances that are... flamboyant. And there's nothing wrong with appreciating unhinged Cage, I like The Wicker Man for that reason. I'm more interested in comparing more subdued performances. For example, Cage's Oscar nominated co-stars Elisabeth Shue and Meryl Streep in Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation (yeah, I know that Streep goes a bit crazy at the end). Do people think, well, that is the best way they could've delivered that line in that situation? What separates a good actor from a great one? I'm simply curious about acting. If you don't know, that's okay.

I've seen the trailer for Birdman. It looks freakin' amazing. I hope Michael Keaton makes a big comeback off of it. It looks freakin' amazing!!!

Foxcatcher is the one with Steve Carrel and Channing Tatum, right? I have no real thoughts on it. I'm gonna go see it, but I'm not pumped for it or anything.

We haven't really been talking about films on a critical level, so I'm not entirely sure which types of films he likes. He said he liked The Guard at the party, and he also expressed admiration for the films of Christopher Nolan.

Okay, I'll wait. I haven't seen a film completely fresh in a long time. I need to stop researching things beforehand! :P

Following interested me because Nolan is now making these massive movies for millions and millions of dollars and his first feature was made for practically nothing, yet it keeps his basic style. Very very interesting.

I really liked The Guest! Style, soundtrack and the main character all worked for me. Pretty much ticked all the boxes for me Shane and that's all I'll say, I'll wait 'til you see it before saying anything else :)

I loved Unforgiven.Man,for some reason I almost started crying when he went into the bar at the end,it was just so damn great.That and the part where he's talking to the kid (we all got it comin') we're just perfect.It might be a top 20 film after a rewatch.Do you think it's the unofficial story of what happened to The Man With No Name from the Dollars Trilogy?

Hey, I was thinking of creating a list on Letterboxd for next month, a list of horrors for October y'know. I was wondering how should I go about this? I've got 12 movies that I'd like to see added, Ginger Snaps is one that I believe I saw before years ago but can remember anything about it so I might just count it as a first time watch. Is that acceptable? :D

I'm honestly up for anything, if it's in the list I'll give it a go if I can get it :) They don't have to be good, even if they're terrible I'll watch them if you recommend them buddy :) I think I might add a few that I've seen before y'know but keep the majority as first time watches. Does that sound okay?

Is this the Alexandre Aja one? Because I checked my list and it's down in the 1000's, but I actually really liked it! I actually think it's one of the best remakes I've seen, it's depraved, well directed and has a fantastic unsettling score that plays throughout the movie. I'm sorry we didn't get to argue about a movie Shane, but I guess we've gotta agree here! :D

I get why you were asking though; we rarely disagree with each other on movies so it'd be interesting to discuss a movie where we are polar opposites in how much we liked it :) I'll see if I can think of any if you'd like to discuss? :) Or if you've got one then let me know, I'll check your list for a few I love/hate and see where you rank it buddy :)

But I love Napoleon Dynamite! Just kiddin! Yeah, so I get the appeal, understand why one would love it but it just didn't work for me at all really. I can enjoy random humor but most, not all, of the jokes in ND fell flat for me. Don't get me wrong, it had its moments, the slap scene in particular was very funny but for the most part if just failed to make me laugh. Maybe I should give it another go? It's been ages since I've seen it so maybe the random humor would work better for me with more mature eyes? :D

Yeah, comedy is so subjective it's nearly pointless trying to debate it with someone. The directors cut of Daredevil I've heard is a big improvement, I may check it out some time :)

That'll be a constant problem with Evil Dead for sure, I just hope there's something that sticks out on a re-watch that makes me appreciate it more. Yeah no problem, I'll let you know how it was on a re-watch Shane :)

Final Draft 9 basically formats your screenplay correctly, basically automatically, whereas I had to manually change margins every line before in Microsoft Word. It can also keep track of all your characters, scenes, locations, props, etc. It can help you plan out scenes, character arcs, storylines, etc. It just makes everything a lot more streamlined and easier.

I just worked really hard on my Art project (did lots of research, drew lots of drawings, etc.) and . . . not to be bragging . . . but I'm pretty good :P

Well, the problem with ranking here and giving a star rating on Letterboxd, apart from my list being a mess, is that my opinion could change a bit after thinking about the movie more after a few days. So on Letterboxd you've got my initial reaction and on here is the considered one. The Guest is very high on my list but I've only given it 4.5 on Letterboxd so it looks like it should be a 5 going by my list maybe.

A troll picking it's nose? Inspired! Do you still draw at all?

I did a painting of an old man and a young woman in the rain under a bridge which I was pretty happy with. I also did a clay sculpture of a boat in unstable waters, and a paper mâché tree that had been knocked over in a storm (based off an actual tree I found in my Mayo!) Those were the main three, but there were also a lot of sketches that I did for preparation that went in the project as well (people in the rain, boats, trees, etc.)

About Harold and Maude, if I had to choose one word to describe it, that word would be "repetitive". They do the same scene of Harold committing suicide about seven times, and I couldn't count how many times they ended a scene with Cat Stevens (good music, but man did it get annoying!) and by the time it was over, I was struck by little happened through the runtime. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't all that good, IMO. Good cinematography, though. I guess.

I wasn't that impressed by Locke unfortunately! Tom Hardy was pretty good as always, but I didn't rate his accent and the story just dragged for me, there was no tension and I didn't really care about what was happening. Maybe I expected a different plot to what actually happened.

Ah, Shoot Em Up! Yeah, didn't really enjoy it Shane. But it's another one where I can see the appeal but it just didn't entertain me the way it was supposed to. I usually like Clive Owen but in SEU I wasn't a fan for some reason, just didn't really grab me as the lead dude kicking ass y'know? I get the love for it though, just didn't work for me for some reason buddy :)

Flickchart actually tells me it's 4.5 at its current placement so maybe it's placed okay? :D I dunno, if it's in the 1-150 range I think it could be a five star film for me y'know? Is that crazy or would your five star movies go that high as well?

Yeah, you've seen a lot more movies than me so your five star rating going further makes sense. I think it'd be up to 100-150 that I'd consider 5 stars, so I'll probably change my rating for The Guest to 5. I really wanna re-watch it!

Hey, I was wondering something. When you watch a movie, do you rate solely on how much you enjoy it or do you think about it somewhat objectively? Or a bit of both perhaps? I think it's a bit of both for me. For example, I loved You're Next and had a fantastic time watching it but there were a few moments that had me going "come on!" y'know? So if I were to rate on enjoyability alone it would probably be a 5, but with those moments taken into consideration it goes down to a 4/4.5.

Our politicians are trying to impose the American system as well, which would be really really bad…..
Ever wonder if someone made a live action movie about America and its story, but as Uncle Sam, the personification of America? Understand what Im saying. We follow this fellow (Uncle Sam the guy from the I want you poster) but is really following the history of America. You think with a great story, groundbreaking acting and editing and directing this film could get a lot of appreciation. Haha just a funny thought :P

Do you have anything negative to say about guardians except for the absent of “okka chaca” in some battle scenes? Mine would be the comedy a bit. At times it was hilarious but some few times a bit over the top. Also Ronan reminded me of Malekith.
Yeah my crowd sucked as well the first time so did the 3D. Second time I was with friends and a quite better crowd and didn’t watch it in 3D
Kubrick and Scorsese are my top 2 right now. Especially Kubrick how he handles the acting, the themes and the technical part. Amazing. Always hated Tarantino when I was younger, but after watching Pulp fiction I gotta see more from him. Also interested in seeing some more from Linklater and watch some of Paul Andersen’s work as well as Akira Kurosawa.

But, because of the way Guardians was handled Ronan is very forgiveable. I don't know about you, but I had the feeling they were making fun of the classical good vs. evil plot. How Rocket made fun of them standing, Quill handing the orb and dropping it, and the final showdown with Peter dancing. Don't know if you share the same thoughts

Hmm, I've honestly spent a while thinking about what makes me angry these days and it's not that much. Talking/texting in the cinema or during a movie at home would annoy me a lot and get me pretty pissed but not much else that I can think of. I used to get angry at trivial enough things; like losing too many times in Fifa against my friends and things like that.

I really really hope His new film Hateful eight will return with the same style as Pulp fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Those two movies are so marvelous. So many great lines, dramatic sequences, fantastic performances and great characters. Pulp Fiction and reservoir dogs keep you interrested with their talking - Basterds and Django not so much (Especially django, which quite frankly felt pretty boring). Is Kill Bill the same style as RD and PF?

Hey, Shane. Sorry I haven't been talking for a bit. My dog got diagnosed with cancer on Sunday, so I've been a little down. I'm fine now, though. Just happy to still have him, and he seems to be perking up a little bit. Might have him a few more days than I thought. That's pretty great! :)

So yeah . . . Step Brothers! I laughed a hell of a lot, but I didn't find the actual film that compelling. It was pretty predictable, poorly directed and aimless. But you know, it was really brought up by the jokes! I loved the ending, where Will Ferrell was singing the opera, and John C. Reilly just kept saying "Boats and Hoes!" Had me on the floor!

A Most Wanted Man was really great. Philip Seymour Hoffman was excellent, a very real performance. It had lots of great human emotion too, and I saw it as a very optimistic film, despite things not always going right for the characters.

I assume Maniac Cop 3 doesn't live up to the second?

How was Hearts of Darkness?

Hey, I saw some of the Grand Final, it was on last night on my sport channel. I wasn't able to concentrate on it fully(I've had a crappy cold and have been sleeping a lot when I haven't been at work!), but I enjoyed what I did see! Next season I'll definitely get more involved in watching and learn all the rules :)

Glad you enjoyed those films, Shane. I enjoyed your remark about the integrity of Cheap Thrills. I would have never got that impression from the trailers.

I love both Louis C.K. and Louis Theroux, but I have not yet seen C.K's Hilarious. But it will my first choice whenever I feel in the mood for a standup special. Speaking of Louis, have you seen his show, Louie? I've been watching a lot of it lately, and I kind of adore it! :D

Speaking of TV, have you ever seen Archer? I just finished binging the whole series on Netflix, and I would really recommend it. Fantastic dialogue, man.

You have to be in a certain mood to watch The Double. It's a slow, surrealist film that's quite strange in ways that aren't immediately entertaining in the moment, yet end up being pretty great in the overall picture. Richard Ayoade is an excellent director, man. Have you seen Submarine? It's basically the same kind of tone with faster dialogue and more precise (and better) cinematography. I loved it, but only because I was ready for it, y'know? It's that type of movie, and if you wan't to watch that type of movie, it's definitely worth $5.50. Jesse Eisenberg is also freakin' great in it.

Well, Cheap Thrills still has some gross moments, but I'm surpsied by it's R18+ rating.

Louie is one of the best shows on tv. I just love that it's his vision, with nobody interfering with his work. He works to his schedule, and does brilliant work.

If you get a chance to hear Louie on Opie & Anthony radio show (on YouTube), I think you'll get a laugh. I just listened to him repeatedly ask Donald Rumsfeld whether he was a lizard! :D Amazing!!

Yeah, I don't mind Archer. I own a few DVDs, but I haven't caught up with the show. I'm having more fun with Rick and Morty to be honest.

Ok, thanks for the info on The Double. I'll keep it in mind. There's quite a few I'm considering. I also see The Zero Theorum, Only Lovers Left Alive, A Single Shot, Fading Gigalo, Frank (must be new, only just saw it now!), Knights of Badassdom, and Wadjda.

I love watching the Opie and Anthony clips on youtube with Louis! I love the one where he talks about writing a routine for Vin Diesel at the MTV movie awards. And the Bill Donahue one, which is just classic.

I'm glad you chose to watch Frank, as it's easily the best of those films you listed, from reviews I've read. And Frank is my avatar, so I do have a soft spot for the film. And it's really damn fucking good, man. Hope you like it. Have you seen it yet? Your main page isn't loading for me.

Fincher has made some fantastic films, and some uneven ones. The thing about The Game that bothered me was that there was no way they could predict everything Michael Douglas does (otherwise it was all right). Panic Room and Dragon Tattoo are okay thrillers, but Fincher is capable of more. Alien 3 lacks substance, like they only had a few ideas. Benjamin Button feels like a pointless and listless remake of Forrest Gump... anyway. All of his films are technically well done though.

I thought John Wick was just alright. I thought it was beautifully shot and the action was well done but overall the film was just kind of average for me. For the last twenty minutes I felt like I was wondering how much time was left. I think part of it was that I went to Interstellar just a few days before and that was such a thrilling experience that I don't think this could have matched up.

Fury on the other hand was fantastic in my opinion. I'm not quite sure where the accurate ranking on my flickchart will be but I really enjoyed the film. Beautifully filmed and really showed the intensity of war well. The sound design was incredible as well. It really felt like you were in the heat of battle. Plus, my grandfather was in tanks during his time in the military so I've always been interested in tank warfare.

What are your thoughts on Interstellar?

I loved the film as well though I will agree it is a little flawed at times but that didn't take away from my enjoyment. Once again I need to see the film another time to give it an accurate ranking. It's definitely Nolan's most ambitious and emotional movie but overall I would put it right about in the middle for my personal ranking of his films. I thought the same thing about it being similar to Inception visually. The scope was massive but I was never as impressed with it as I was with Inception for whatever reason. Maybe because I'm much more fascinated with dreams than space travel haha.

My only real issue with the film is indeed the ending. Nolan always has such exciting/satisfying endings (with the exception of Insomnia I guess which has much more of a generic ending which is still ok) and I really feel he dropped the ball on this one. Maybe I'll appreciate it more as time goes on but it felt very forced/off to me. It also felt like the big "moment" at the end was far too brief and detached emotionally after building up to it for the entire film.

So yeah, little issues but over all I couldn't have been more thrilled with the film.

I'm not really even that mad at them,I'm mostly just mad at myself because I'm so flippin' socially akward.They'll give me shit about stuff,and I'm too nice,or just too shy to say anything back,so they think I'm a pussy.I wish I could be more confident and social,but that's just not how I am.This week was much better than last though,I don't know what was wrong with me,but I was so pissed I wouldn't even look at them.

I actually didn't really care for District 9 to be honest. Which kind of surprised me since I've always heard such good things about it. I thought visually the movie looked great with the special effects and I liked the whole documentary style. I just wasn't all that interested in the story. I thought the ending was really well done though.

I notice it's fairly high on your chart though. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the film.

Haha yeah it's way down there on my list but I'm still not quite sure I'd put it as my worst ever. My list isn't the most accurate that far down.

It was just a film that I found to be very off-putting personally. I can handle violence in films just fine but I just found it really gross when he was getting really sick and losing fingernails and whatnot haha. The way it was filmed in the documentary style made it feel very harsh and overexposed and just gave it a very uneasy feeling. There were some things I appreciated but as a whole I wasn't all that into it. Glad you like though, thanks for your thoughts.

I am still looking forward to Chappie in a couple months by the same director however. Are you interested in that one and are you planning on seeing it?

Holy shit man, that's crazy. I hope it dies out soon, it sounds like a scary situation to have to be dealing with. It looks bad in those pictures buddy, stay safe Shane and keep me posted if you can, hope it stops spreading. You're right to be prepared man, can't be too safe. How is it now?

He looks the part, I suppose it'll depend on this Jurassic World role. A few of the lines in the trailer seems bit iffy, I think that's the writing more than Pratt though so hopefully he's solid in the movie. I'd be open to the idea of him as Indy anyway, I can see how it'd be a bigger deal for others though. I wasn't one of the people that grew up watching Indy, I saw it fully for the first time a year or two ago :)


I saw Kingsman, I think you'll really like it. A hell of a lot of fun, Vaughn can really direct action better than most mainstream directors, there's such a crazy energy to his action scenes :)

I thought Firth sorta stole the show in a similar way to Cage doing it in Kick-Ass, though Chloe Moretz stole it even more-so in Kick-Ass I thought. Anyway, what about that church scene? Fucking crazy, huh? I love how Vaughn directs action, the way it followed Firth through each kill and incorporated gunplay in such an awesome way was incredible. Some of the humor was just hit and miss with me, but mostly hit. I really hope it does well, it looks like a much bigger budget than the one he had for Kick-Ass so I hope it pays off for him and it's successful.

I've never watched Legend of Korra, is it anime? There's a lot of anime shows I hear about, I need to check them out some time.

I actually bought the Zodiac: Director's Cut a while back as well! Remember we were talking about how we both need to re-watch it? I bought it soon after that, still haven't gotten around to re-watching it though!

Yeah, the gunplay in Kingsman is better than John Wick. It's very different though I thought, it's far more fluid and energetic and it has more variety in the fighting: the switching from guns to hand to hand to any weapon he could get his hands on. Still though, John Wick's was sweet too.

No, I was actually fine with Jacksons lisp, I thought it was pretty funny and it was impressively consistent throughout. I really liked Jackson as well, thought he had a few great lines and his aversion to violence was hilarious. Okay, the humor that didn't work, and I'm aware I'm probably alone in this because the theater I was in found it funny, was the princess scene at the end. I get they were sending up the 'James Bond/Spy getting the girl we could only dream of' thing that's prominent in the movies it's inspired by/poking fun at. I just thought the anal thing was a little awkward and an odd note to end the film on. There were a few other scenes but I can't think right now, I'm seriously tired man. That humor might sit better on a re-watch though, which I can't wait to do! What'd you think of the after credits scene? It was probably the right move to end where it did but part of me wanted to see him kick that guys ass! :D How does it compare to Kick-Ass for you? Favorite action scene? I liked the action with Eggsy at the end but it didn't top the church scene for me.

I'm not sure I've seen Alice in Wonderland actually.

Maybe, I was really impressed with the gunplay in it to be honest. It looked quick and precise to me, something a lot of movies with shootouts don't seem to be able to pull off. There seems to be a lot of quick cuts from guns to people being shot and it just looks sorta messy and not really anything special. I think the gunfight in the club is up on youtube if you wanna watch it? Though you'd probably rather wait and watch the full movie again :)

Yeah, it might sit better with me on a re-watch and it didn't take much away from the movie really. The rest of it was so enjoyable it didn't bother me much at all.

Yeah, I agree. The church scene is up there with Kick-Ass's best but none of the rest are. The thing with Kick-Ass too is that I'm not sure which of those three you mentioned are my favorite, the rescue scene and the hallway one are probably top two and then the warehouse third but it's so hard to separate because they're all awesome. Do you have a favorite of the three?

Yeah, maybe. Part of me was wondering how Eggsy learned to fight like that at the end but they just didn't show the martial arts training obviously. Maybe for pacing reasons as well, the training section was long enough I thought.

Were you tense during the dog scene? I thought it was hilarious when we saw Firth's dog and Eggsy's reaction and then Firth's explanation!

I actually really liked the house scene! :D Thought it established his prowess with a gun very effectively :) He wasn't as impressive when it came to hand to hand but he came off as very quick & accurate with a gun.

See, I don't think that's that many. Recently at least, Lords of Salem is definitely a witch film. They're at least not as plentiful a movie villain as the vampire, zombie or serial killer y'know? Yeah definitely, they run the chance of coming off as a little goofy so it has to be done right. Relying more on atmosphere and mood seems a good way to go though so hopefully the film doesn't disappoint once it becomes available to us.

Well that's good then. Hopefully they just thrown him into the mix then with not too much emphasis put on origin because I think everyone who's interested in comic book movies knows that story by now.

I watched May, thought it was very good. It's got a seriously unsetting ending and the build up to it was very effective. So thank you for the recommendation, Shane :)

I know, it was crazy! Did you notice the tattoo on the crazy hair guy's arm as well? It was a Frankenstein tattoo so I assume that's where she got the idea. Yep, I was surprised to see her there! :D She was obviously messed up because of her childhood so I'm not sure a relationship would've been sustainable anyway but she definitely did seem to care about him and only wanted to connect with someone. It's sad but incredibly messed up at the same time. I liked how it looked as well, kinda grungy. It reminded me bit of Ginger Snaps except less gothic. All in all I was impressed, Shane :)

The reason I'm unsure about Aloha is because of post-Almost Famous Cameron Crowe hasn't been great. It looks to me like it could either be sincere and sweet or manipulative and cheesy. I'll hope it's the former, I'd love it if he made a return to form :)

Nothing wrong with that answer at all, Shane. In fact that's probably the one I'd go with as well. A lot of films have impressed me immensely but none have quite had the immediate impact that The Dark Knight had for me. I loved Batman Begins and thought it couldn't be topped but I remember sitting in that theater in complete awe at what I was seeing. Ledger was beyond amazing and the scale of the film was so grand.

How large is this IMAX screen that you speak of? Have you ever had the opportunity of seeing any films there?

Y'know, I kinda want to watch Rebellion now. I wish it was on Netflix so I could watch it! :D Isn't that strange? I thought Afterlife was crap but I'd still watch the sequel, and the one that's coming out next. Maybe it's grown on me a bit since watching it? It may work as a sorta stupid/fun movie to watch when in the right mood. I remember enjoying the first one but acknowledging it was kinda shit. Seeing Batman losing control was intense haha! I wish they would have left a couple shots in right after that brilliant interrogation scene like when Batman stomps on the Joker's head after he gets the information out of him and then he was supposed to run across the tops of police cars on his way to the Bat-pod. I just like how he has disregard for police property when Rachel is in danger like when he flattened them with the Tumbler in Begins :) The film is just fine as is but I thought those couple unused shots would have made a nice addition.

Seeing a film on that big of screen would be something else! Too bad about your experience though. It's really sad that people have to suffer with those kinds of things.

As for Spider-Man, I'm very disappointed to say the least, Shane haha. I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and love all the movies even though some are better than others. I collect all the Ultimate Spider-Man comic books and those are what what the "Amazing" series was somewhat based on and I was someone that really enjoyed those films. I can see why people hate them but they were just fine for me. I'm really upset we don't get to see how it wraps up. I just wanted one more film with Andrew as Spider-Man and Dane as the Goblin and I would have been happy. Here's how I would have handled it if they HAD to sell the rights:

They should have made The Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Spider-Man going up against The Sinister Six with the Green Goblin being the primary villain. Somehow resolve the storyline of Peter's parents and introduce Miles Morales (who is the current Spider-Man in the "Ultimate" comic books and a character Andrew Garfield himself thought should take over once he steps away). At the end of the film do a "Death of Spider-Man" storyline with Peter sacrificing himself to stop the Sinister Six. This would allow Miles to take over as Spider-Man and provide a smooth transition to the Marvel Studios films and serve as a soft reboot.

Yeah, I'd say the first Resident Evil wouldn't hold up well at all. From what I've seen, all semblance of a story is gone buddy, it's a real mess but one that some people seem to enjoy! :D

We'll have to wait and see then, Shane :) I'm really looking forward to it though, it sorta reminded me of True Detective. That's just from the cult-like people though, it's probably a way different tone and atmosphere.

I'm not really sure why they were left out. I thought I remember hearing they thought the head kicking was "just a little to much". There are actually quite a few unused or alternate shots from the film. A couple others I remember off the top of my head is The Tumbler racing out of the Bat-bunker and a knife being used to pin the joker card to the "fake Batman" instead of just a clip.

I don't mind the idea of Miles Morales since it will give us something very different for Spider-Man that hasn't been done in the films. Plus, it will ease the pain of seeing someone that's not Andrew Garfield in the role haha. I'm just puzzled whether they will acknowledge Peter Parker or not. Maybe Miles will be the one and only Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? In the comics Miles is no where near as interesting a character as Peter so I'm curious how he will be handled. I can see some people being upset because they want to see a Peter Parker Spider-Man with The Avengers. Kind of like how some people don't like Dick Grayson as Batman. Most people I talk to have never heard of Miles Morales before so it will be interesting how it's received.

Whiplash was fantastic! Definitely among my favorites of 2014. Let me know what you think after you see it!

I finally got watching The Babadook and loved it. Essie Davis was incredible and the film had so many spine chilling images, it was really incredible, just short of five stars but on a re-watch might give it a perfect rating :)

I'm not 100% on which is which but I think Torque is the more over the top one. Something involving a train is coming to mind, been so long since I watched either I can't remember much though.

Hah That's kinda what brought it down a star for me, I found it hilarious at times and very impressive visually but it seemed to be trying a little too hard when it came to the social commentary, covering so much stuff that it just felt empty-ish but nice to look at. I still enjoyed it on the whole though - 4 stars from me :)

I was thinking that the Babadook was a representation of her grief/depression. It arrived around the anniversary of the death of her husband and got more severe the closer it got to the date and the ending reinforced that it was a metaphor for that - the way the Babadook seemed to be manageable and 'it's a quiet day today' really hit hard, just like terrible grief/depression it may never go away but there'll be days when it's easier to manage than others. How about you? Was your reading the same as mine or a bit different?

No worries, Shane! I agree Whiplash is one heck of a film. That ending was so thrilling even my arms felt like they were burning from that wicked drumming. I loved how the film had a very intimate feel and yet had such constant energy to it.

Yep, certainly agree there. The critic character seemed odd to me as well, seemed to be an easy and cheap way to knock critics even if there may have been some validity to what Keaton's character was saying. I'm still unsure of what to make of the critic & her scenes but it'll be interesting when I re-watch it.

Yeah, that's true about the characters in Sabotage - they were all so alike, and annoying as hell in my opinion. The constant macho shit got annoying after a while. I gave it two stars, which is probably generous enough.

Watched It Follows and thought it was very good, maybe great, possibly even incredible… but I'll have to watch it again before confirming which one of those it is! :D I thought it took a slight dip in the second half, but that's due to the first half being so strong I think and the ending I'm kinda 50/50 on but it's been growing on me since I watched it so when I see it again I hope I really like it.

Probably not a wide release, no. I'd say it could get a limited release in Australia though, it got a surprisingly wide release in Ireland so some of the bigger cinemas may be able to get it. I thought I might have to wait for a film club showing from my cinema before seeing it but they got it in for a week - in their smallest screen unfortunately, but still happy to get seeing it. The Guest would probably be a good comparison, it got a similar size release for us, how was the Australian release for it? Not great I assume since you've yet to see it.

I'll try and reupload it sometime this week. I've been super busy the last few days. I'm doing a Pool Lifeguard Course that will qualify me for any pool in the country. I've been to the pool from 7:30 in the morning to 6:30 at night for the last two days. Shit's been intense.

I think it was just a loophole in the legislation. I'm not entirely sure how it worked, but they nullified some law that included the country's only legislative statement against possession of said drugs. It was still illegal to sell them or smuggle them into the country, but you could carry it around like it ain't no thing for a whole 24 hours. Pretty nuts.

Oh yeah, I plan to get some spare cash off lifeguarding a good deal during my final few years in school. I'm quite good friends with a few lifeguards that could get me part-time work in their pools, so hopefully that'll work out :)

Yeah, John Oliver is great, although I'm starting to get annoyed by his studio audience. They seem to view him as a Howard Biel-esque Christ figure, applauding and cheering for comments clearly meant for more of a quiet thoughtful response. You can't do politics and make it into Two and a Half Men. That's why Russel Brand is a twat.

I completely agree with what you're saying about people not understanding gay marriage because they don't really know any gay people. And then some people are just wrong about how people should be treated, regardless of how intelligent they may be otherwise. This kinda scares me, to be honest.

Haha, I used to watch episodes of the show early in the morning, then they would replay them in the afternoon. I remember one episode where Batman got sprayed with some chemicals that turned his cowl pink, and he was just running around with a pink cowl for the rest of the episode, and no one really noticed! That show, despite some overwritten dialogue scenes, had some amazing moments.

I liked how you described the samurai in the original Harakiri, I really got that feeling as well from him, that he was very weathered and been through it so to speak. The original is so great :) The remake doesn't sound too bad though, I may give it a watch some time.

I watched Life Itself and thought it was pretty great. Ebert was such an interesting guy and you really felt like you got to know him throughout the film. My favorite parts of it were the times it went into details about his relationship with Siskel, that was very interesting. They had some competitiveness about them but a respect as well and it was cool how they grew to really become close friends. Really great documentary, I'm sure you'd like it :)

Well, Shane, as you know I did not really care for District 9 so I was a little unsure walking into this one. I had heard mixed to bad reviews for it but I approached it with an open mind and didn't let any public perception of the film affect how I felt about it. I ended up really enjoying the film believe it or not. I can easily see why people are upset about it because the trailers do make it seem like a different film a little bit. I do have a couple issues with it but it didn't detract from my enjoyment. It did take me a little bit to get into it but once the story got going I was really into it. Hans Zimmer's electronic score was really sweet as well. The person I was with enjoyed the film too so I wasn't alone haha. There was only a couple people there besides us so I don't know if the bad word of mouth is hurting it or not.

Those could all be contributing factors. For me, it was just a solid film that I ended up enjoying quite a bit.

I agree he needs to do something outside of South Africa just to shake things up and make it seem more fresh. I'm curious what he'll do with the Alien franchise. I've only seen Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus (if that one counts). Are they still making a Prometheus sequel if they're making a new Alien?

I actually thought Prometheus was pretty good. It looked incredible visually and I actually kind of liked how it remained kind of open ended rather than give all the answers. Kind of gets you thinking. Fassbender was really good in it as well. What do you think of Prometheus? And which do you like better, Alien or Aliens? Personally I like Alien a little more since it feels a little more stripped down or something. Kind of like how I like the first Terminator a little more than T2 (which seems backwards for a lot of people haha but both are good).

What do you think of Ridley Scott as a director? From what I've seen of his work I've enjoyed his films like Gladiator, Alien, Blade Runner, Body of Lies, and American Gangster. I've even enjoyed some of his films that got negative reception like Robin Hood and Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Haha, what I say beside the locker isn't my normal voice. I'm playing up the culchie accent for most of the video. The bit at the end in the office is closer to my real voice. The line was supposed to be "Well, you can't pick locks. Sure lookit ya!" but I admit my speech was garbled.

Him hitting the pole was actually an improvisation on the actor's part. I like it, though. I interpret it as his cheerful goodbye to the college as he embarks on the further journey of life.

I actually saw Run All Night as well last night :) What did you think? I really like Liam Neeson and the film was enjoyable and all but I thought this one was middle of the road. It wasn't great but it's by no means bad either. Just a fun one to kick back, relax and have fun with.

Compared with the other Jaume Collet-Serra/Neeson team-ups I thought Non-Stop was a lot better. Non-Stop is probably among my favorite Neeson films. I love the claustrophobic setting of the plane. I did think Run All Night was a lot better than Unknown though which I wasn't as much of a fan of.

Ok, cool. I've heard of the AFL before but don't know much about it. Does basketball and the AFL have a big following in Australia? I'm really into baseball and hockey but they don't have the huge following that they used to here. Baseball still does alright but it's not like it was back in the day. Our football league, the NFL, is what a majority of people follow here.

Sorry, I never got around to re-watching Upstream Color yet. Nearly finished Twin Peaks, once I do I'll watch Upstream Color… that'll be a lot of weird for one week! :D

Yeah, In Hell was just a spontaneous decision. Was in the mood for something fun and it had surprisingly decent reviews on Letterboxd. Have you ever seen it? I was a little disappointed, it was a lot cheesier than I expected. Van Damme is usually fun as well but I found him sorta boring in it, have you ever seen it?

It's a show that I wish I watched because it seems like my cup of tea, but I didn't ever get around to watching it. I actually never realized how long ago it started, 1993. I thought it started late nineties. I'd like to watch it though, I may try and see it before the new season comes out, or watch an episode of the new season and then decide whether or not it's worth buying the box set. Are you interested in checking it out?

I think it was the score and emotion in Upstream Color I preferred. Primer was impressive but it felt a little lifeless to me. I need to watch it again though.

Yeah, we really can't have Twin Peaks without him. There's probably no point in moving forward if he isn't going to be a part of it. We should know soon anyway, hopefully it gets resolved and he's given the budget he needs.

I thought it was pretty good. Definitely an entertaining watch. I love checking out old films like that. The only other John Huston film I've seen so far is The Maltese Falcon and I like that one quite a bit better than Treasure of the Sierra Madre. I still want to check out The African Queen someday. I've only seen Bogart as a good guy up until this film so it was different seeing him playing a darker character. Have you seen many John Huston films?

I haven't watched them either, I saw a few Flash episodes and it was enjoyable enough but very 'light' y'know? I sorta lost interest and didn't bother with the rest of the season. No chance of that with Daredevil, it builds momentum well and kept me hooked pretty much throughout. I really think you'd enjoy it :)

Ah I've been okay Shane, the movie watching as taken a drastic dip this year. I've hardly got watching anything in the past few weeks, just a few of the F&F movies, was planning on watching them before seeing Furious 7 but it looks like I'm gonna miss that now. Avengers will be my first trip to the cinema since It Follows I think. How have you been?

I'm not so sure about the new Joker either, the tattoos are a bit much for me but I'd rather not judge too early. The 'damaged' one on the head is certainly the worst though. I heard they might just be for the picture and he'll not have them in the film, which is sorta odd. Definitely need to get rid of the one on the head though!

Not at all, I still love movies. It's just been a busier year and I keep meaning to watch more but it just doesn't happen. I'll eventually start watching them more regularly though, sooner rather than later hopefully.

The whole image just screams try hard to me, hope for the best though I guess.

Oh yeah, definitely. Definitely heard a bit of Psycho in the soundtrack, not sure about Suspiria, I'll probably notice it when I re-watch it. Halloween for sure, the scene in the classroom reminded me a lot of when Laurie was looking out at Michael standing by the car. Also, the street the characters lived on sorta reminded me of Halloween/Nightmare on Elm Street. The guy that lives across from Jay seemed a bit like Johnny Depp's character in ANOES also. Did you get that at all?

It was refreshing, I can't remember any jump scares at all really. The camera work in general was just great I thought. Did any particular moments scare you? The scene in the house with the big tall guy coming through the door was really alarming for me! :D

I'm not sure about the pool scene either. The blood in the pool was a great shot but I wasn't sure about the characters reasoning for thinking that would kill it.

Damn, that's a shame. I heard some people say Transcendence wasn't as bad as the reviews made it out to be so I held out a little hope of it being enjoyable. I'm not really interested in checking it out now.

Yeah, I loved that too. I also liked the way it had the kids fend for themselves, the lack of adults in the movie would make it all the more frightening to watch as a kid.

There's one in the works I think. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I can't see Maika Monroe coming back or the director, maybe it'd be for the best if she didn't come back, I liked the ambiguous ending that we got for her character. How do you feel about a potential sequel?

Have you read up on many of the films going to Cannes this year? Some very interesting looking ones. Takashi Miike's new one in particular looks zany as hell, about a vampire mob boss. It's called Yakuza Apocalypse if you haven't heard of it, I know he's pretty hit & miss with you though I think. I haven't seen enough of his films to have much of an opinion on him. Yayan Ruhian is in it though, cool to see him in something other than The Raid movies.

I was just looking some up yesterday and today but never got a proper look at what was interesting. Don't wanna leave you too long so I'll reply now with the ones that caught my eye.

Carol is about a lesbian affair set in the 50s and directed by Todd Haynes. You've probably heard of it before, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, it's been featured in most of the 'what to look forward to from Cannes' lists.

Youth I'm sorta interested in because it's got Michael Caine and directed by the same guy who made The Great Beauty. Have you seen that? I know I rambled on about how incredible it looked to you but can't remember if you've seen it.

The Sea of Trees, I think you told me about this so no need to say anything more. It'll just be interesting to see if it gets a positive response :)

The Lobster. This just sounds mad, have you heard of it? I'll just copy & paste the description I read: set in a dystopian near future where lonely people are obliged to find a matching mate within a 45-day period in a hotel. If they fail, they are transformed into animals and sent off into the woods. I mean, what the hell? hah It's by the guy who directed Dogtooth, heard mixed things about that movie.

Our Little Sister, talked about this before too I think. It's by Hirokazu Koreeda so if it's nearly as good as Like Father, Like Son we'll both like it :)

The Assassin sounds very interesting, about a female assassin who's been ordered to kill the man she loves… at least I think that's what it is. There's longer descriptions of the story out there if you're interested, it's directed by Hou Hsiao-Hsien. Haven't seen any of his films but heard they're good so The Assassin sounds like a good place to start! :)
