I love every single movie in your top 10! :) Great list, btw have you only just seen Psycho recently or are you just currently adding stuff you've seen ages ago?

How is that Thunderbirds film? I remember the catastrophically bad reviews but always remained curious.

What's your opinion on The Cabin in the Woods and 300?
shane24 on 8/26/2013 Reply · Like · (2 likes)
I don't care what other people think about movies I like. I hope nobody bothers you on what movies you like. :) If they do, they're dicks. If you like 300, I think it's fine. I wouldn't even consider it a guilty pleasure. It's not on the same level as Taxi Driver, but it's achieves exactly what it set out to do. Anyway, 300 is in the top 1000 on flickchart, so there is quite a few people who must love the movie (myself included). I hope I don't come across as aggressive, it's not my intention. I'm just giving you my support. :)

If you ever want to ask me about a film, don't hesitate to ask. :) I'm sure I will drop you some questions every now and then. :)

Agree. I have Tree of Life and The Mist ranked higher than the Star Wars and LotR trilogies, so I'm not even one to talk.

That's great how you have interesting picks which aren't always classified as all-time greats high up on your chart. :)

I personally loved Cloud Atlas. I gave it 4 1/2 stars on letterboxd. However, it's a strange movie, there's no denying that. It jumps centuries from scene to scene, has actors playing multiple characters, and takes it's time revealing where certain stories are headed. But I love that the directors have such a weird blend of comedy, action, sic-fi, romance, and drama in one movie. I'm not going to lie, you may dislike it, but it may be worth it to you for the uniqueness of the film. If you want to know something more about Cloud Atlas that I haven't covered, just ask. :) Or ask me about any movie really, I enjoy helping. :)What have you got planned to watch soon? :)
I'm very glad I helped mate. :) Seriously, anytime you want to know something about a movie, I will try my best to answer for you. Even recommendations, I enjoy helping people that I enjoy talking to. :)I would very much like to hear your thoughts on Shutter Island, Sin City and Snatch when you see them. :)

What did you think of Elysium? I thought it was going to be amazing, but I thought it was just good, nothing special. I really didn't like all the coincidences that linked everything up perfectly. I'm still debating it's placement on my list, I'm starting to think it's too high.
shane24 on 8/30/2013 Reply · Like · (0 likes)
Okay, I will recommend you some 2013 movies. :) I am still learning what you like, so some recommendations might not suit you. But know I will try my best. :) Oh, by the way, you should definitely give District 9 a go, it's so much better than Elysium.

The Way, Way Back- just a fantastic coming-of-age story, with a great soundtrack that really aids the movie. An awkward kid comes out of his shell at a water park while on holiday. He also needs to escape his jerk stepdad (played by Steve Carell), who constantly humiliates him on purpose. The highlight for me is Sam Rockwell. He is the owner of Water Wizz, yet is a total slacker. I had many laughs at his character, yet there is some great touching moments between him and the kid.The Conjuring- Do you like horror? If you do, The Conjuring is one of the best movies of the year. Wan is great at not showing you too much, letting your mind think of what lurks in the dark. the child actors are actually fantastic in some scenes, and the score is brilliant at ramping up the tension.Star Trek Into Darkness- I don't know, you might not like Trek movies, but I really enjoyed Cumberbatch as John Harrison. Fast & Furious 6- It's totally ridiculous, but if you know what to expect, then it's so much fun. Plus the mid-credits scene had me so pumped to see the sequel! Awesome! :)Iron Man 3- What a letdown Iron Man 2 was! So I was so happy when I enjoyed this movie. I enjoyed how creative they were with the action. Tony Stark is pushed to the limit in this movie, just relying on his brain at times, which was great to see. Very funny as well. One part makes me nervous about recommending this to you. There is a twist, that you will really could go either way with. But for me, it didn't bother me. :)The Wolverine- This was such an improvement over the last Wolverine movie. They really raised the stakes for Logan in this movie, made him vulnerable. The end, for me, falls apart a bit, but it was still a solid movie. The mid-credits scene is again awesome. :)This is the End- I liked this movie, but I was a tiny bit letdown by it. However, I'm not giving up on it, because comedies make me laugh more the second time quite a bit. I would recommend it to you still. :)World War Z- This movie really surprise me. I had heard of the production troubles. They actually re-shot about a 1/3 of the movie again. But after hearing what the movie was going to be, I'm glad they went in this direction. I'm not an easy scare mate, but they got me in this movie. One of the female zombies in this movie totally freaked me out! Also, the ending had me clenching my teeth. Look out for Matthew Fox as a soldier for a second. Nearly all of his scenes were cut out of the movie. :)The Great Gatsby- It might not be your thing, but I liked it. But I have never read Gatsby, so I had no way of connecting anything to the book that would annoy me. I will also admit that I may be biased, my cousin is in the movie. :)Side Effects- Slow at times (didn't bother me, but that's what other people have told me), but is effective at.... You know, the less you know the better. It's not going to blow you away, but it's a good thriller. There you go! :) Hopefully you find something in there to watch. :) If you want to know anything else about these movies, just ask pal. :)

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions and the summaries of what each film is like. I saw a trailer for The Conjuring in the cinema and it was pretty scary, I'll definitely check it out. I don't normally like horror films (besides The Shining, Psycho and Cabin in the Woods), but this looks and sounds very good.J.J Abrams' Star Trek film was really great, but I didn't get round to seeing Into Darkness when it was theaters. Hopefully it'll be on par with his first one. I will certainty check most of them out and you can look at my 'Top 50 Favourite Films' list on Letterboxd, hopefully that will give you a good idea of what I like. :)

Are you a big fan of Bill Cosby? :)
Cool, I just ask because you have Cosby on Flickchart and Letterboxd. I haven't seen enough of him to judge. I'm a fan of Louis C.K and Aussie comedian Carl Barron. :)Shutter Island is very good. One thing, I kinda ruined the movie for myself! Without trying, I guessed what would happen in the whole movie after seeing the very first scene! :O I could just tell how it was shot what was going to happen! I couldn't believe how right I was! I was hoping the whole movie I was going to be wrong, but that didn't happen. All the major plot points were guessed by me from just seeing 30 seconds of footage. It's still a great movie, though. I would give it 3 1/2 stars on letterboxd. I just think it would of been higher for me if it surprised me. I do accept that it's my fault.I can't wait for Wolf of Wall Street mate. Scorsese would be in my top 5 favourite directors. I feel your pain, Australia is on the receiving end of some shocking release dates as well. However, I think we get it this year. Are you excited for The Councilor? :)
Yeah, it was saved a bit for me because I wasn't completely sure about the twist until the end. I just wish Scorcese shot that opening scene a bit different so i wouldn't of got it. :)Yeah, if you're not from America, it's hard to get movies to consistently arrive on time. Pain & Gain only JUST came out in the cinemas here.
Oh, I knew Cosby wasn't your favourite, I just wanted to share the comedians I like. :)

Hey man. Great top 20, we have quite a bit in common. I adore all of the movies in your top 10 :). The Good, the Bad and the Ugly changed the game as far as westerns go. It was directed brilliantly and Clint was a badass as usual. Love the Godfather movies. Nice to see Fight Club and Goodfellas in there also. Hope your doing well! We gotta talk more!

What did you think of The Raid?
MasterofMovies on 9/29/2013 Reply · Like · (1 like)
Prisoners is my 2nd favorite film of the year so far behind Star Trek: Into Darkness. It's such a riveting, emotional and raw experience from start to finish. A gripping drama that pulls you in. Great performances all around, particularly from Jake Gylenhall and Hugh Jackman. It's Jackman's best performance in my opinion. It never gets boring. I reccomend you see it if you have not.

I'm very glad you liked Breaking Bad. Your thoughts on the show mirror my own. :) Will you watch Better Call Saul as well?
I can tell you one actor that hopes to return if you like? I just want to be careful with spoilers. :) You might want to go in knowing nothing. :)I see Goodfellas and The Godfather are close on your list. Do you ever have trouble ranking the two when matched up?

Ha, we both have Once Upon a Time in the West at 96%. :D I think it's my number 162, but it's a 10/10 every day for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much mate.

Hey, glad to see that you enjoyed Star Trek Into Darkness! Well, I think so. It's 62 percent on your chart. I'm having a hard time figuring out what your favorite films of the year are. Could you give me a top 5 possibly?

Hey man, glad to see that you recently saw Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade! What were your thoughts on each? Also, Raising Arizona is a great movie. I see that you gave it 4 stars on Letterbox as well :).

Hey, stranger! I see you saw that John C. Reily vampire movie recently. The books are huge here in Ireland, but I assume the film disappoints?
MasterofMovies on 12/7/2013 Reply · Like · (1 like)
Here's the thing about Out of the Furnace- It's not bad, it's just that it's not what you would expect. I didn't really like it very much, mostly because not a lot happens, and it is kinda depressing. If you like a film like Se7en, then you may like this. It has that kind of dreary, dark tone throughout that will really stick with the viewer. I'll do a Letterbox review after I finish up my current project, 30 Amazing Movies. Looks like you just watched In Bruges and seems like you liked it! Thoughts?

My bad,I thought you had seen 2001 before and just recently put it as you're #1.The first time I saw 2001,I was just an average movie watcher,so it blew my mind!I had no idea what was going on in the end because I never knew that you could just use image's to tell a story.I Couldn't stop thinking about it either, sometimes I still just stop and think about it!It became my favorite a little while after the first viewing because it made me appreciate film as an art.

Is Barry Lyndon really that good?
saddler16 on 1/24/2014 Reply · Like · (1 like)
It was definitely different than any other film I've ever seen.Terrence Malick definitely has his own style.I'm pretty sure when he made this film,he was trying to make a masterpiece. For the most part I think he succeeded. The cinematography was stunning.Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt both did great job's,so did the kid's.I really need to watch it again because I'm sure I'll love it even more on the next viewing. What do you think of it?

How was Eraserhead?
shane24 on 2/10/2014 Reply · Like · (1 like)
I loved it. Bloody hilarious, in the context of a movie. But Belfort was truly a horrid person. I don't get how anybody thinks Scorsese was trying to glorify the lifestyle. I believe if anybody idolises Belfort, then there was something in them that was flawed already.
TheHonestFilmFan on 3/28/2014 Reply · Like · (1 like)
I haven't heard much good about Fear and Desire, but I am a bit shocked to see a Kubrick film so low on your list. Care to elaborate on it's horribleness?

How is Boyhood? I've been hearing that's it's one of the most amazing movies ever made.
saddler16 on 7/24/2014 Reply · Like · (1 like)
I really want to see Boyhood, but I live in a pretty small town and will probably have to wait until it comes out on Blu-Ray or DVD.I think the only film I've seen of his is School of Rock .
