Hi there, who are your favourite directors?

Well, Usually I just watch what movies I'm interested in, rather then who made it. But there are some I really like: Steven Spielberg and Gorge Lucas come to mind first. I love all 6 of the og Star Wars movies (and have defended Episodes I,II&III frequently), while Steven makes so many classics, E.T., Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park; And my favorite movie ever, Jaws. Both also did a collaboration to make the Indy trilogy masterpiece. Both of them give off a warm, meaningful, and always charming feel to there movies. So, yeah, Lucas and Spielberg are probably my favorite Directors. Other ones that I really like are Christopher Nolan, Peter Jackson, and maybe James Cameron (Though he did make Avatar, and worked on Dark Fate).

It might change, but as of now:
1. Joker
2. The Dark Knight
3. Batman Begins
4. The Dark Knight Rises (sometimes I like it more then Begins, it’s hard, but I think Begins is a hair better)
5. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2
6. Guardians of The Galaxy (I adore it but I will still always argue Vol. 2 is better)
7. Spider-Man 2
8. The Avengers (hard to pick SM2 or Avengers, but as of now I think SM2 is a little better.)
9. Captain America: Civil War
10. Spider-Man (I could easily change it to Iron Man, or Batman Returns, it changes all the time.)

I love some more but these are the best ones. And keep in mind I haven’t seen Avengers 3 or 4.

Glad to see Nolan's Batman Trilogy and the Lord of the Rings films so high. Also agree that Last Crusade is the best Indy film. But I dislike Temple of Doom a lot, probably because it terrified me when I was younger and I still get frights when I even look at the poster lol.

Yeah I think LOTR is the best trilogy in cinema, and somewhat underrated on this site. And Nolan’s Trilogy is great too. Most people see The Dark Knight as obviously better then Begins and Rises, but I always saw them as tied in greatness. And that’s funny about Temple, as until recently it was my favorite Indy film. Only recently did I choose Crusade over it. I know many don’t like it being more dark from Raiders, but I always thought what made it so great. It differed from Raiders, being it’s own thing instead of trying the same again. It has possibly my favorite child character in film, excellent action, and underrated comedy. So while I think Crusade surpasses it, I still think it’s better then Raiders (which I also love a lot.)

LOTR is pretty underrated here. Espically compared to the OT Star Wars, Holy Grail, Terminator, etc., it comes in pretty low. I still think they are absolutely incredible and definitely my top 3 favourite films (although Return is my favourite, I really count them as one long film). My other favourites are the Matrix (mind-blowing sci-fi), Inception (same as the Matrix), the Dark Knight Trilogy and, of course, Empire Strikes Back because it's the best Star Wars film obviously

Yeah I do think LOTR is better the 90% in the top 100 here. But I still love the first 6 Star Wars films as well, I grew up with them. But I won’t act like they’re better then The Dark Knight trilogy or LOTR. And I’ve seen Matrix and loved it. I just haven’t put it on my chart yet cause I need to rewatch it before ranking it. Oh and Return of the King is the best in my eyes too. Unfortunately I have yet to see Inception.

Sadly I haven’t watched many (I’m currently watching all QT & Steven Spielberg movies). But every time I see one I’ll update with a reply with to this comment.
1. The Dark Knight
2. Batman Begins
3. The Dark Knight Rises
4. Dunkirk (I don’t have any problems with it, isn’t excellent. TDK Trilogy is just better.)

I'll reccomend: Inception, Memento and Prestige in this order.

Nolan's lastest streak in this decade is solid, but just a step below his 00s work. He's done two great films and two good films imho, in this decade.

Being said -- What do you think of Peter Jackson's work after LOTR?

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll definitely check out all of Nolan’s movies sometime soon, especially Inception. Been wanting to watch that film forever.

And about Peter Jackson, I actually really liked his King Kong remake. I mean it can’t hold a candle to the original, but it was a nice love letter. But after that it seems he got some pretty bad luck. I heard he didn’t want to make 3 extended Hobbit films, but eventually agreed to it, which as most people know was a massive mistake. Also attaching his name to Mortal Engines was a big mistake with how that film’s reception turned out. I still respect him as a filmmaker, I just think he’s messed up more then once. Like most filmmakers.

Surprised to see Joker topping the Dark Knight trilogy. Also you seem to hate the DCEU a lot, while I kind of agree that it had tons of bad movies (Wonder Woman 1984, Birds of Prey), it also had tons of good ones (Man of Steel, The Suicide Squad (this one is surprisingly good), Shazam and Zack Snyder’s Justice League)

I think Joker got the edge over them cause of its perfect pacing and character arc. There’s a lot of great subtly and intelligence as to how Arthur Fleck is written. And the pacing is slow and atmospheric, creating a tragic but gritty tone. Also how it fleshed out it’s world; and how the side characters feel like real people and not plot points. And especially how realistic it all feels, like you’re watching a real man go down the darkest path. I love Nolan’s trilogy and have little complaints about them; I think Joker is just that good. And yeah the DCEU is one of my least favorite film series of all time (Wonder Woman 1984 & Birds of Prey are even among my least favorite films). And I just can’t see any of them above a 3/10. I personally thought Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Man of Steel were complete messes that screwed almost everything up. I’d even go as far as to say Josstice League, Batman v Superman, and even the original Suicide Squad are better, and I find those films dreadful. There are these takedowns of MOS and ZSJL by Mauler and EFAP on YouTube; they bring up great points against the films. I’d suggest giving them a watch. As for Shazam; I haven’t seen it in awhile so I can’t say much about it other then what I remember. What I do was a film with many logical/character errors with mostly dull and flat jokes. I’ll admit some jokes made me smile, it has a welcomed warm tone compared to the rest of the DCEU; and it’s definitely the best of the film series. But that’s not enough to save it for me as I find it rather poorly made. I have yet to see The Suicide Squad, but I just hope it’s a massive step up for the DCEU. Though I’m still going in with critical eyes. When I see it, I’ll tell what I think of it.

How would you rank all 9 Core Star Wars films? Mine would be;
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Force Awakens
6. Last Jedi
7. Attack of the Clones
8. The Phantom Menace
9. Rise of Skywalker

I can't remember anything about the spin offs

This is easy for me as I grew up with the first 6 films so I'm very familiar with them. I think all 6 hold up incredibly well; but ranking them? Here.
1. The Empire Strikes Back (A perfect movie by every term, taking everything that made the first flick great and improving it. The world building, characters, and stakes have all been fleshed out masterfully. And of course the best twist in film history.)

2. A New Hope (While I think Empire is the better film, I understand why Hope is #1 on here. It's a revolutionary masterpiece that changed films & pop-culture. No movie has ever been as big as it since.)

3. Revenge of the Sith (Even if A New Hope is the better film, I may prefer this one. It's just so iconic, memorable; and probably the most quotable film ever. The characters really made the movie, leading to a tear-jerking third act .It also has possibly John Williams' best score in his career.)

4. Return of the Jedi. (There is almost nothing wrong with this movie; it's yet another masterpiece. It's just lower because the others are just that good. It's one of the best endings in film history, and Palatine is just as great as Vader. And honestly I very much like the Ewoks.)

5. The Phantom Menace. (Though a lot lower then the top 4; it's still a solid 9/10 for me. A underrated gem. I really don't understand how someone could rank it lower then the sequels, no offense of course. It's got a lot of substance with the characters and it uses the slower pace to it's advantage. Not to mention the stellar world building; expanding the world amazingly. And dare I say, I'm rather fond of the politics. They don't overstay they're welcome and keep the world interesting. And a lot of the special effects hold up today, which is impressive for 1999.)

6. Attack of the Clones. (Phantom Menace and this are pretty much tied to me. I might change my mind on which of the two I prefer every now and then. Again, I think the slower pace helps for the story it's trying to tell. And the film has a great sense of dread and thick atmosphere. It fleshes out the characters and world just as much as Phantom. And dare I say an underrated romance? pretty controversial to say yes, but it's what I think. I find a lot of the criticisms of the romance miss a lot of details. And one last controversial take; The acting wasn't that bad. Rather, I think it was pretty good.)

7. The Force Awakens (This is, much, much, much, MUCH lower then the previous 6. I will admit I have some nostalgia for this film; but that doesn't stop me from seeing the facts. It's a trash New Hope clone. The film completely obliterated the world building and storyline. It turned the incredible old characters into punchlines. They reduced Han Solo's character all the way back to A New Hope. Only more old and sad. The film also just has major plot holes and contrivances. it's parody level crap. The new characters are terrible as well. Especially Rey... oh why Rey. I have no idea why the film was well received; or how it's in the top 500 when so many better films aren't.)

8. The Last Jedi. (I don't have much to say about this film that hasn't been said by everyone already. It's a Frankenstein of a film. A disgrace; and abomination. TFA may have destroyed the previous world building, but TLJ destroyed the franchise as a whole.)

9. The Rise of Skywalker. (This film just stinking reeks. It's honestly one of the worst films ever made. It's writing is so bad, it makes the Jurassic Park sequels look competent and well made by comparison. This film is just a corpse on fire. Please go watch "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: An Unbridle Rage" to get an idea of how bad I think this film is. Heck, throw in some over takedown videos of it to add to the flams. This to me is the worst Star Wars film of all time.)

In Short:
The Empire Strikes Back - A++ :)
A New Hope - A++
Revenge of The Sith - A+
Return of the Jedi - A+
The Phantom Menace - A
Attack of the Clones - A
The Force Awakens - F-
The Last Jedi - F-
The Rise of Skywalker - F- -

Nice ranking! I'll explain my opinions more in depth too:

#1. Empire (You pretty much summed it up. This film is practically perfect, and easily in my top 10 favourite films of all time - 10/10)

#2. New Hope (I will admit I found it a bit boring compared to the others as a child, but on rewatch you can really see how it influenced filmaking and changed blockbusters forever. Plus, while I probably enjoy my number 3 more, this is just an all-round better film with a better script and better structure - 9/10)

#3. Revenge (I love this one a lot, mostly because of the music. John Williams put in his strongest effort for the series by far. I also love pretty much everything after the Order 66 scene (minus Padme and Anakin's reunion) to death, and the ending is so emotional and so perfect. I do have a few complaints - the Grievous subplot takes away from the core of the film a bit and some of the early scenes can be a bit cringey, but still an amazing film - 8.5/10)

#4. Return (I never really enjoyed the opening sequence at Jabba's Palace, so that takes a few points off the film sibce it is practically the entire first act, but the battle on the sail barge really is an epjc scene - if they had cut all of that down and just had a short scene then the sail barge fight it might actually be higher. Same with the Ewoks, although I still find them adorable because of nostalgia, I will admit it takes away from the film as well - I still love them though! That said, the entire second half of the film, especially the incredible scenes with the Emperor, are perfection and easily my favourite Star Wars material to date. A excellent conclusion to the original trilogy, all said and done - 8/10

BIG GAP

#5. Force Awakens (I have to say I loved this film the first few times I watched it, but on repeat rewatch you notice the New Hope similarities and the stupid changes it made to the canon, like destroying the New Republic etc. I do find it a bit boring to watch now, but I actually enjoy the characters and think they had potential (to bad Last Jedi shafted half of them and Rise of Skywalker ruined the ones LJ didn't destroy). I think Han Solo is great in the film and his death scene is well done, and there are definitely some soildly entertaining momments throughout. But it's still a middling one to me, and yes, I don't understand how it made it into the top 500 - flip, it probably dosen't eveb deserve a spot in the top 1000! - 6.5/10)

#6. Last Jedi (I admit I like this one quite a bit because I went on a day trip to the island where Anch To was filmed, and I appreciate the scenes there a lot more than I used to. Also every scene in the Throne Room, the Yoda Scene and the ending battle are all great. It's just a lot drags it down - the stupid Canto Bight sub-plot, the terrible Leia Poppins bit, and the infuriating Adrimal Holdo plotline. I also think it went too far on the humour to the point where it felt like a parody. It's saved, though, by some interesting ideas, incredible visuals and some good performances. But I still have no idea how it beat Revenge of the Sith on the charts - 6/10)

#7. Attack of the Clones (Two words drag this down: love scenes. Seriously, I find everything between Padme and Anakin borderline unwatchable. The only saving grace of those scenes are the memes, but since these scenes taje up a large majority of the film, it really hurts it. Which is a shame because everything else is actually really good! Obi Wan's detective side plot, the entire last 45 minutes, the opening chase, Yoda, it's all good stuff and very underappreciated in the fandom. But yeah, can't rank it any higher because of the love stuff - 6/10)

#8. The Phantom Menace (I have a lot of nostalgia for Meance and Clones, but on rewatches I've enjoyed episode 2 more than episode 1. To be honest, Duel of the Fates is possibly the most epic scene in the history of Star Wars - far better than anything in the Sequels - and the music and sound effects are legendary. But I find a lot of it boring, dull and just not very interesting. It's really not one I go back to that often - 5/10)

#9. Rise of Skywalker (I sadly admit I really enjoyed it the first time I watched it, and I can still find enjoyment in it if I look past the plot, characters, script, lore changes, arcs, and everything of that nature. It's not even saved by the visuals like Last Jedi, sonce the whole film jumps between so many locations and places with over-the-top lighting that it becomes sore on the eyes. I actually like the final scene on the Lars Homestead (minus the Rey Skywalker bit) and Babu Frik, C-3P0 and Chewbacca are all great in this. I wouldn't call it one of the worst films ever, but it's no-questions-asked one of the worst Star Wars films - 4.5/10)
