'I'm sorry, but I don't want to be an Emperor, that's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone.

The way of life can be free and beautiful. But we have lost the way.

Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed.

We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in;
machinery that gives abundance has left us in want.
Our knowledge has made us cynical,
our cleverness hard and unkind.
We think too much and feel too little.
More than machinery we need humanity,
more than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness.

Without these qualities life will be violent and all will be lost.

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me I say: do not despair.

The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass and dictators will die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people and so long as men die liberty will never perish.

Soldiers: don't give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you, who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who drill you, diet you, treat you as cattle, as cannon fodder!

Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men,
machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts.
You are not machines!
You are not cattle!
You are men!!
You have the love of humanity in your hearts.
You don't hate, only the unloved hate.
The unloved and the unnatural.
Soldiers: don't fight for slavery, fight for liberty!

In the seventeenth chapter of Saint Luke it is written:
- "The kingdom of God is within man."
Not one man, nor a group of men, but in all men: in you!

You the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You the people have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.
Then, in the name of democracy, let us use that power, let us all unite!
Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give you the future and old age and security.
By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, but they lie. They do not fulfil their promise, they never will. Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people.
Now let us fight to fulfil that promise. Let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness.

Soldiers! In the name of democracy: let us all unite'
CHAPLIN, Charles; The Great Dictator

Nightmare on Elm Street is not a great movie. Really, it's b-movie material. Freddie and Jason are really poster-children for iconic characters with movies that are average at best... Dracula and The Fly are iconic characters and great films as well.

As for Aliens, I love it but it's not considered horror. I think you may be confusing it with Alien, which was made prior to the past 30 years. Haven't seen the rest that you mentioned. I just get annoyed by the cheap, lazy, cliché jump-scare tactics that most modern horror film employ. For me, these two are better in content than cheesy horror movies today such as the Paranormal franchise or The Blair Witch Project. Just a bunch of trash if you ask me.

Yes, you need to watch Dracula again. Remember, I'm referring to the 1931 version of Dracula. In fact, I recommend you watch the version with the Phillip Glass score added. It's awesome and adds to the eerie atmosphere. Here's a YouTube link where you can watch it free! Enjoy!!

Glad you liked the Phillip Glass score added to Dracula! As for The Birds, I like it but I can't say that I LOVE it. I've seen 15 or 20 Hitchcock titles, and The Birds is probably somewhere in the 10 to 15 range of those that I've seen. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 stars. The ending just didn't work for me.

Yeah, the first Saw was great, but the franchise all goes downhill from there. The second was good. The third one is where it gets ridiculous and becomes overkill. I didn't watch any more of the franchise after that. And even though I loved the first one, I really don't have an urge to ever see it again. Sure I could watch it if a friend hadn't ever seen it and wanted me to watch it with him, but there's really no incentive or drive for me to watch it again on my own. So, it's great the first time but average after that.

Hey man, I just watched Harakiri for the first time and was amazed to say the least! I then watched Rashomon and loved it as well. So, I'm now making it my business to watch more from Kobayashi and Kurosawa. I'm familiar with their filmographies. How would you rank their films with relation to each other? Also, in what recommended order should I watch them?

Thanks for such a speedy reply! I'm so grateful that I have someone that's knowledgeable in Japanese films that can guide me through them. I'm also excited that you have Rashomon and Harakiri at #4 & #8 respectively on that list that I solicited. If my taste agrees with yours, that means I have three films to watch that I'll enjoy as much or even more than Rashomon and 6 that I'll enjoy as much or more than Harakiri. That would mean that my top 20 will be experiencing a big shakeup. I'll start watching some of these next month during school intercession.

I see you have Harakiri ahead of Rashomon. I love both but prefer Harakiri slightly. I just love the unfolding of the story. But I also love Rashomon's four different tellings and variations of one story. Both are masterpieces in my opinion.

Thanks again for the info. If you have anything else to add, please fill me in. I would like to know if you recommend watching them in any kind of order.

Questions about my top 10:
Jurassic Park: one of most entertaining films i've seen, the 'nostalgia film'! One of the first i saw.
True Grit: surprinsigly, the best film of The Duke. Really fantastic atmosphere, one of films i see a lot!
Rear Window: maybe, the best Hitchcock's film. So fantastic. One of best direction and best story of cinema Story.
The Grand Budapest Hotel: Simply fantastic. The best film of modern times IMO. An different film i just loved.
Halloween: Simply an dream. An great storytelling. Too surprised by the fantastic event of the October 31 in USA. And the creator of cliche!
The Silence of the Lambs: An very, very good psychological journey! With two of the greatest characters ever in cinema story.
Jaws: Too filled with great characters and storytelling, Jaws is simply fantastic. How he loses to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1975's Oscars, i don't know.
Casablanca: The best film i've seen.
Psycho: My favorite Hitchcock film. Well-directed, great character and performance. Really fantastic! One of best twist ever.
The Shining: Just saw it over 1000 times...

Roger Ebert is a critic who gains inexplicable praise and attention. I don't really mind his personal opinions but when he gets a 'Great movies' category on Flickchart, I have to ask 'Why?'. Where's Siskel's movie list, huh?

He has given a lot of great movies bad reviews too such as Reservoir Dog and over-praised films like Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

I absolutely love the Austin Powers films with Goldmember my fav. I really love comedies, especially the ones that leave me pissing my pants. "This Is the End" is probably my current fav. Clerks 2 is another and imo, is better than the original.

I haven't seen Goldfinger in years but I've always enjoyed it. Yeah, I think I did that "I like when Bond gives___ the (gold) finger" too many times so I stopped. And besides, I probably wore the joke out.

Sorry to toot my own horn but the ones of mine that I like is using the Scarface line of "Say hello to my little friend" but confuse it with the other film. I'm probably the only one that laughs at it, lol. Thanks again! And keep writing!

I love animated films which are done right, I think anime films just have an enticing style to them though. I really like Ghibli films but other films like Perfect Blue or Wolf Children are also good. My favourite anime film would have to be Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind which I thought was wonderful.

I'm not sure what you were asking but I assume it was my favorite anime films. I love all of Ghibli's movies but I do like darker films such as Akira or Perfect Blue. I deleted all of my rankings as I am very fussy over my Flickchart. I was deciding to do a personal list of my favorites and the best (imo) of the films I've seen, I'm still undecided.

I decided to start from scratch, and not just add movies I own. I also just want to add and rate the ones I'm most familiar with. This way, my list will be more up-to-date for my favs. I still have the same top 20 as before. I'm adding more to my list as long as I can fully recall the film (and not add them just for the sake of ownership).

Probably in a couple or few more days, my top 100 should be more truer. I think listing favs past 100 in a decent order could take months, lol.,

It's taking a lot longer to shape out that list. Too bad this site won't let you place the films where you want them instead of constant voting. I tried so many times to get Saving Private Ryan in 3rd place but gave up, lol.

I doubt I'll ever get a true list from #11 to #100. It's too much of a pain to place them in a specific order, unless I have no clue how to do it. lol

I absolutely love A Charlie Brown Christmas. It's still my fav Christmas cartoon.

I've lost a lot of appeal to many of those classic films, Clockwork Orange among them. I have no desire to ever view again. The entertainment factor of the film is now lost.

The older I get, the more I suffer ADD or whatever the attention deficit acronym is, the joke being it's something you suffer in your youth, and not in your fifties, LOL

The classic Grinch cartoon is great, but I don't care at all for Ron Howard's take on it. And I love Jim Carrey but he couldn't save it.

Fight club is my favourite of his.
He was annoying in Se7en.Especially at the ending.Se7en is a bit overrated movie too IMO.
benjamin button has a pritty good Idea but but Pitt was mis cast IMO:-)

I HATE CASABALANCA IT IS F*****G BAD MOVIE IMO.CHEESY LINES THAT UGLY DUCKLING HUMPHERY BOGART and OVER THE TOP INGRID BERGMAN ALL ARE JUST ANNOYING.I KNOW THIS IS UNPOPULAR OPINION TO HAVE but this is what I'll say about it.

Sadly, I have not gotten around to fulfilling my Kurosawa quest. I set my DVR to automatically record any and all films produced by Kurosawa. So far, I have these recorded: Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Yojimbo, Rashomon, Sanjuro, The Bad Sleep Well, and Scandal.

I'm in school right now and don't really have enough time to watch them. I like to clear my day and devote all my attention to films of this magnitude. Out of sheer curiosity, I did watch the opening scene of Seven Samurai. Seems like I'll really like it. I also watched the first half of Yojimbo. It's fantastic... I just have to go back and finish it. I'll probably start there and just re-watch the whole thing since it's much shorter than a film like Seven Samurai.

Of the ones I have recorded, which ones do you like most? Also, comment on The Bad Sleep Well and Scandal since those are the two I'm least familiar with. Thanks!!

Oh yes it has a se7en samurai has great ending. So Has Rashomon.Well Pather Panchali is what we call Director's movie.Actors have imp. Parts to play but it's the director who manages to bring out the greatness frim this movie.:-)
Hey any thoughts on Roman Polnaski movies.I have seen only 2 of his works. The pianist & Chinatown(0nly once)what are your thoughts on them

Ha ha 3 idiots poster is hillarious.Unique I would say. It's also such a great movie.Highly recommended.
Let me give you a summary.
There are 3 frnds. All gets admission in an reputetrd IT collage. One of them due to family pressure is forced to learn eingeniering. But he aspires to be a natural photographer.Another one of them comes from an poor family. He has big burdens of his family on his soldiers. And is superstitious and religious.Another one who is the main protagonist is weird.well I won't spoil for you.It also has a great twist.Well the underlining message of this movie is- DONT FOLLOW SUCCESS LIKE A SHIP.RUN FOR PERFECTION.THEN YOU'lll NOTICE SUCCESS IS FOLLOWING YOU(LIKE A SHIP) :-)

I am a big Roman Polanski fan.Well he had sex with an ubderaged girl( that is hillarious =-O )and a fugitive and a holocaust survivour.Butbman o man he makes great movies.Granted I have seen only his 2 movies Chinatown and the pianist. Those 2 are awesome :-)

Clockwork orange was interesting I would say.The futurastic thoughts weren't Logical but yeah the movie was good.I dob't really like Kubrick movies. The shining would be my favourite.2001 Was boring to the power infinity. Not my cup of tea .Full metal jacket is good war movie . What are your thoughts on Stanley Kubrick???

Ty Simkins is good. Not a big fan his work but yeah he is enjoyable. The best part of iron man 3 was his amd RDJ's conversations IMO.Yeah incidious pritty bad movie too.
I don't foolow many child actors actually. The home alone kid well now not a kid he he he and the sixth sense kid again not a kid anymore he he.I dont follow contemporary

Yes man he has some potentials. He can be a big hollywood star someday. But then again there were many promising child artists in the past too who became a joke in future. For e.g.
The kid who starred with Charlie Chaplin in The Kid.Man he worked with chaplin the Greatest silent- talkiee movie actor of all time IMO (sorry Brando bogart and Tom mix). But who knows what happened to him.
Then we have home alone kid.People thought he had high potentials the guy gave one of the biggest christamas movie ever but where the hell is he now.
Then we have Haley Joel Osment.Giving By far the greatest child performance ever in the sixth sense IMO.WAS great in A.I too (the ending killed it).Now he he has become a joke.
Not telling Sinkins van't break the chains and become a star but history isn't on his side.Child actors most of the time can't become big stars. And the above mentions actors had mpre potential then him.

I wanted to see Jurassic World so bad but never got around to it. I've read and heard split reviews about it but I never let (reviews) influence my ratings. It's not playing around here anymore so I"ll have to wait for the blu-ray release.

The hateful 8 i think will be entertaining to say the least.Suspenceful too I presume. It has a very tallented cast too.
