1962, when long apparently meant quality. A two-hour story told in four and a rather unlikeable narcissist for a protagonist isn't my idea of a good time.

The word “epic” in recent years has become synonymous with “big budget B picture.” What you realize watching “Lawrence of Arabia” is that the word “epic” refers not to the cost or the elaborate production, but to the size of the ideas and vision. Roger Ebert

Well, I gave it another shot. I've long felt Lawrence is one of the most overrated epics out there, and...I still kinda do. I can definitely appreciate the immense undertaking it must have been to get this movie made, and technically it's very impressive. On the other hand, it just meanders on and on and on and the main musical theme gets tremendously annoying about halfway through. Sometimes it feels as if scenes are extended simply to make the film longer.
I dunno, guess I still don't "get" what's so great about this one. A 6/10 from me.

Wow! What a superb film! It's 4 hours long but I was still very compelled with it for the entire runtime! It's the kind of movie that Hollywood are too scared to make today. 4 hours of filmmaking in the highest quality, a great story with a complex main character and it's very ambitious. A 10/10 for me.

Breathtakingly epic & outstandingly beautiful film with one of the greatest acting performances of all time, a protagonist who thinks he's God, possibly the greatest cinematography in film history and one of the most impressive War Stories ever put on screen. Let's not forget the amount of hard work that must have been required from all the people working on the film. This film is a REAL epic and an absolute masterpiece by David Lean!

The only major criticism I have for Lawrence of Arabia is the fact that it is too long- i’d say literally every other aspect of the movie is damn near flawless. What a movie ..

This movie should be in the top 100. A wonderful epic, with great atmosphere, music, acting, directing, and some important themes
