Last night, I saw How To Train Your Dragon 2. It was a charming film full of heart and spirit. Jay Baruchel's voice continues to irritate the hell out of my ears but it was really solid material for a non Pixar animated film. It doesn't quite pass the first film which was very refreshing and original to me. This one felt like many moments were lifted from other films (Lion King in particular) and it's ending was more expected than I had hoped. But the humor continued to be very on point and it wasn't demeaning despite the intended target audience. A recommendation for those who are at the theater and want something charming and soulful.

Vastly superior to the original!
Much more likable characters!
A darker, deeper and ambitious plot!
Higher stakes with more drastic consequences!
Better music as well!

9.5/10
