This movie has a lot of good things in it, but at times I felt that the story was too big. Big, that's not necessarily a bad thing. David Lean made 'big' movies, and Lone Star is kind of like those old epics. It really plays out like a novel, all the side stories, sub plots and, character backgrounds. Amongst the vastness of this film, I feel we stray too far from the main mystery. But I enjoyed the direction in which the movie strayed. I love the interactions between characters that have nothing to do with the main plot. It's in these interactions we explore themes such as race relations and the age gap. The overall problem is the pacing. The subject matter is great, the performances are good for the most part, but the pacing really takes you out of the film at points.
