Nothing warms my heart more than talking to a friend or acquaintance and finding out that they've never seen Strange Brew. Let's be clear - Strange Brew is not a film. It is the perfect collision of some of the most gifted comedic performers of all time with Moranis, Thomas, and Dooley, legitimate acting pedigrees with Max von Sydow and Douglas Campbell and solid supporting performances from a cast of American and Canadian actors that most have never heard of and most will never see again. It is sneaky in that as easy it is to dismiss as a drunken romp, really, the movie easily ranks in the top percentile of 20th century adaptations of Shakespeare's work. True, the movie panders in resorting to bodily function humor, it's still a kinder, gentler kind of crudity, something I've found consistent in many other Canadian comedies over the years. No movie fan would find themselves disappointed by spending 90 minutes with Strange Brew.
