Berlin Alexanderplatz is fantastic. That doesn't mean it's for everybody, but if you're on board with it and have the time to watch the whole thing (not in one sitting, dear God) you will be well rewarded. Requires some knowledge of the history of Germany (and perhaps of Fassbinder) to fully appreciate, as this is a very insular project. The plot is extremely dated to 1929, so even in 1980 it probably came across as strange. But the script is a very straight adaptation until the epilogue (where basically everything is blown up). Now that you can stream it, check it out!
