Notorious is one of Hitchcock's best but is rarely recognized as such. Vertigo, Psycho, Rear Window, and NXNW are certainly Hitchcock's Rushmore, but after that, you'd be hard pressed to find a better movie in his grand filmography than Notorious. In fact, There are days where I really feel I should put Notorious ahead of RW and NXNW. Notorious certainly has richer themes than both of them. And it's much more powerful as well. And that ending... I'm so tempted to bump Notorious up a few places on my chart. Phenomenal film.

Just a few more thoughts on Notorious:

This may very well be Grant's best work of his illustrious career... and that's saying a lot! Most of Grant's career was spent doing screwball comedies. Grant is great at that.. probably the best ever, but I thought Notorious was a much needed break from the monotony. Notorious was such a dark film for him. Notorious was also a deviation from the norm for Ms. Goody-Two-Shoes as well. I'm speaking of Ingrid Bergman. Casablanca and Notorious are her crowning achievements

As good as some scenes are in Notorious, I think there are some plot issues like how quickly Ingrid Bergman puts her trust in Cary Grant and flies out of the country with him. That entire part is forced and unrealistic to me, which makes me drop Notorious to the bottom of top ten Hitchcock.

The tenth Hitchcock film I've seen! And boy, what a film! Superb performances, intriguing plot, marvellous direction and what a powerful film, especially the ending!
My top 5: 1. Vertigo. 2. Psycho. 3. Rear Window. 4. Dial M For Murder. 5. Notorious.
