No denying the influence of this movie. It's in the DNA of Doctor Who (The Talons of Weng Chiang) and the Indiana Jones movies, among others, through action movies and the Hammer horror films it more directly informs. It's racim is cringe-inducing -- the luminous Myrna Lot in yellow face is particularly disturbing -- but what's even more disturbing is how little this film's progeny did to address those sins, papering over the white supremacist Orientalism instead of taking an anti-racist stance. (That's me giving Temple of Doom some pointed side-eye.)
