I maintain that the third act of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is the better ending that La La Land tries to be (which is still pretty good, to be fair)

The fact that it's a highly influential film explains why I saw this and knew what was coming even though I didn't know what The Umbrellas of Cherbourg was really about until I started watching. Still, I enjoyed the story and really enjoyed the set design.

As much as I like musicals, this is more of an opera and I found the singing didn't add anything. However, I'm not sure it would have enjoyed it as much without the singing, even though there's no real songs like we'd expect.

This is my first Jacques Demy film. I'm looking forward to seeing more.
