This is probably my favourite war film, but it seems to get continually shafted by everyone else in the world apart from Roger Ebert. I'm having a hard time understanding why; I'm not saying that i don't understand why people like other war films more (FMJ, SPR, AN etc), i just don't understand why a lot of people seem to neglect Platoon altogether. Any thoughts?

I completely agree! It's incredibly well made, emotional, and gritty! I never understood why so many people hate on it.
