on 8/15/2009 had this to say:

"oh i finally get a chance to finish my thought, now that ive finally figured out how this all works heh. Both these films have a sense of timelessness to them and are thematically kin with two classic cinephiles at the helm. The sense of nostalgia also permeates both narratives which adds to the timelessness and reverance for the films of yesteryear. This is felt in the posters Andy hangs in his cell and the films the prisoners watch with Rita Hayworth and Sophia Loren, Wall-E's VHS copy of Hello Dolly! which the director employed because the "out there" song 'is about two guys that are just so naive, they've never left a small town, and they just wanna go out in the big city for one night and kiss a girl. That's my main character.' This yearning for freedom and experiencing life beyond their confinement is at the core of both of these films, its a shame Shawshank has become a footballer's inspirational tool but they will never see Gilda prematch or know who Clancy Brown is, oh well - think WALL-E wins but not by much"
