Soylent Green sounds great to me. Sadly the dvd isn't available where i'm from. Can you please give your thoughts on this film because i want to hear an opinion of someone who has seen it, so i can judge if it's worth me keeping my eye out for it. Thank you

Watched McCabe & Mrs Miller and thought it was fantastic. It's very different to other westerns, as you said it's moody but also adds some humour as well. I also enjoyed the setting in a developing town. Great movie to have as your number one.

Yes i'm aware of The Great Silence and have actually been looking for it a long time. Unfortunately it's another one of those movies that isn't available where i'm located.

I am interested in your thoughts on showgirls. I have seen it and would like to hear another perspective on the film from the average response that it's terrible considering your position of the film on your list I would like your opinion thanks.

An in-depth article with valid points about showgirls. Very good to read. My version of a movie like showgirls is vampire's kiss. Many people find it bad, however personally I find it very funny, but I realize it's not for everyone. I'll take crazy nic cage over normal nic cage any day. It's great showgirls works for you. I might give it another try someday.

I read your recent comment about camp fear. I'm just wondering if Camp fear is good to watch with friends for a laugh? For example, is it anything like vampire's kiss, evil dead 2 or dead alive? Thanks. Just watched Suspiria, awesome.

Watched Soylent Green. I really enjoyed it. If I hadn't seen it on your list I don't think I would of seen it, or even heard of it.

Hey, so sorry about the delay. I knew it’d take some thinking to come up with a list and, unfortunately, working life is beating the shit out of me. My bad. Anyway, the three Bollywood films that I genuinely enjoy the most are Sholay, Dewaar and LSD: Love, Sex aur Dhokar (‘and Betrayal’). Dewaar is probably the most ‘normal’ or straight forward film so you might not fully enjoy that one (it’s an ‘emotional’ film about brothers on opposing sides of the law). Sholay is interesting because it’s Bollywood’s attempt at a Western (widely considered one of the best Hindi films ever made) and a real Sergio Leone homage/rip-off. It’s also a good buddy movie. I think you might enjoy LSD the most though. It’s quite an unusual film for Bollywood... found-footage, cultural/relationship satire (but not a comedy) that I think is quite satisfying in its starkness I caught the movie on TV after an unsuccessful attempt at sleeping and was really surprised that this movie came out of India (maybe that effected my judgement).

Now, there’s still a specific type of sub-genre list that I will list (amusing/silly/ludicrous stuff), I just have to do some whittling/pondering, so please bear with me for a couple days. For these sub-genre, I may have to recommend some Telugu/Tamil films - if you’re open to that. Also, I could recommend the Satyajit Rai stuff, or acclaimed stuff like Lagaan; they’re ok, but I don’t think they’ll do much for you (if you haven’t already seen them that is). Then there are the iconoic/stereotypically cheesy films. I would stay well clear, but they would be the most adored and representative films in modern Bollywood. Your safest bet would be 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ if you absolutely MUST go down that dark alley.

Once again, my bad, my bad for the late reply.

Don't mention it, I enjoyed thinking about some of these films from the less than glorious days of my movie watching past! Anyway, I have to reiterate, those dark alleys in India are filled with overpowering melodrama, syrup and stupidity. The three big ones that came out when I was a teen are Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein and Khabi Khushi Khabi Gham. All very, very soggy and sappy (and long). I don't know if you'll laugh or cringe.

As for the comical stuff, I think you could try 'Alluda Mazaaka'. I can't remember much of the movie, but it has at least one improbbably retarded action set piece. Seriously funny stuff.

'3 Idiots' and 'Munnabhai' are India's recent attempts at genuine humour, relatively well received by the unitiated too. Both are very long, and I've not sat through either till completion. NB there are two Munnbhai films I think ('Carry On' and MBBS) and I can't recall which is considered better.

Also, you could try Tezaab, Agnipath and Mr India. Old classics, pretty stupid I guess.

Anyway, I'd research the movies before you watch any of them. Indian films really are pretty shit. Also, that thing about not living long enough to watch all of Bollywood's gems... that was a joke on the nation's obscenely portentious film output right? Not something about actually kicking the bucket? Seriously, this's the second time this week I've suspected someone was about to be switched off for good.

Forgot to add... try some of the stuff by Rajinikanth. I've only seen him in a movie called Gereftaar (cameo I think), but he is a YouTube legend.

Ah. Good stuff man. Anyway random recommendation; totally check out interval/circuit training with plyometrics. Really quick workouts, easy to do at home. Try the Bodyrock website. People think it's for chicks, but these workouts are intense enough for seasoned healthsters, but snappy enough for busy/lazy people. Disclaimer; I'm not on their PR Team, just an advocate/fan spreading the good word.

You have good taste in westerns. I finally found The Great Silence, it's a good movie with an ending I wasn't expecting. I think I like McCabe and Mrs. Millar better, but The Great Silence has many great qualities. Great recommendation.

I really, really enjoyed Suspiria. It has a really unique look too it that was really unsettling. I would like to know if there are more horror directors like Argento with the same style worth checking out? Or any other horror directors with there own style that is great?

Probably a lot, but I'm thinking a lot of indie Hong Kong/Taiwan martial arts stuff (a lot of absurd stuff people like Wang Yu and Elton Chong were involved in, like Savage Killers AKA Tiger Crane Fist). They're obscure shoestring budget titled admittedly

I saw your comments about 'Black Book', the WW2 movie directed by Paul Verhoeven and released in 2006 / 2007. I was wondering, have you seen 'Soldier of Orange', which is also directed by Paul Verhoeven and stars Rutger Hauer and Jeroen Krabbé? It seems like it is totally your cup of tea; it is from the 70s, it has plenty of sex, nudity and violence in it and it has interesting characters. I started watching the first half hour of it yesterday, and I plan to watch the rest pretty soon (I have my finals this week), but I was hooked. It is usually considered to be one of the best Dutch movies ever made, if not THE best.

It's a shame that Blue Velvet doesn't get the credit it deserves. Dennis Hopper is a menacing antagonist and every sequence in that film is gripping and quotable. The idyllic suburban setting is nicely done.
