Two Best Picture winners. Gonna give it to Departed.

Both are beautifully made films by master directors working at the top of their game. The Departed packs a bigger cinematic wallop for me.

Both exceptional movies. Departed had fantastic acting but Slumdog is just much more original and creative.

Best Picture winners are more often chosen by consensus rather because of their genius. These two fit that patterns neither are brilliant, but both have mass appeal and are genuinely good 4 stars out of 5 films. I think they're about level in terms of most categories you might wish to compare. They've both got flaws, neither film means that much to me personally. However Slumdog is more original, more uplifting and brings India to the screen to huge audiences outside of India. Slumdog Millionaire. Final answer.
The Departed has a stronger cast and is less of a gimmick.

"The Departed" was more enjoyable, but I'm going with "Slumdog" for one reason: I found myself emotionally invested in the characters and *needed* them to have a happy ending. It's not often I get that wrapped up in a movie these days.

The Departed deserved best Picture one of my favorite films while Slumdog an original story didnt, shouldve gone to Dark Knight or the WRESTLER.

Slumdog millionaire is all in all a better film
