THIS IS SO HARD! I CANT DECIDE!

This is a killer.

Eeny meeny miny moe, catch a tiger by the toe.... Tough decision so I shall let my list decide.

I'm gonna have to vote for The Departed, even though The Dark Knight was such a cultural event it will be remembered for much longer. Yes, Heath Ledger outdoes every actor in The Departed, but one perfect performance versus a cast consisting of some of the best actors of their generation all in the same room is not enough. It's so close, though.

I love the Departed, but The Dark Knight is a better film overall.

without heath ledger DK doesn't stand a chance against the Departed.

@ yazi: Maybe not, but TDK does indeed have Ledger. Frankly, I also thought Aaron Eckhart was just as great. Christian Bale is underrated, just because he's in a role much less colorful than Ledger's (and there is that odd choice of Batman's growling voice). Gyllenhaal, Freeman and Caine all provide very solid support. Gary Oldman is fantastic. Frankly, I think TDK's cast is just as wonderful as that in The Departed, and I enjoy the movie more. Departed is great, but TDK gets my vote.

Both films are pop entertainment presented with more adult themes and moral sophistication than was required by Warner Bros. Even though THE DEPARTED is pretty much Scorsese's remake of GOODFELLAS for kids, it does have a better screenplay, better pacing, better acting... better everything. THE DARK KNIGHT had more resources and talent than it knew what to do with, and I really think it was squandered on a meaningless story. There are a dozen directors I could name off the top of my head who could do a better Batman movie, and only one director who could have made THE DEPARTED. Oh, and Ledger sucked. Anyone who has ever met a tweaker will know he wasn't acting.

Well I love being surprised and when Leo stepped out of that elevator...man! That sealed the deal for me. That movie is loaded with good stuff. Same goes for Dark Knight. I like that Gary Oldman's Gordon is actually a significant character in this series. Also seeing a realistic depiction of Harvey Two-Face was quite a treat in my opinion. If only they hadn't killed him off at the end. Jack Nicholson and Michael Caine are starting to get up there in years, hopefully they can keep with it for a couple more good flicks. Anyways I'm gonna have to go with Departed.

Goddamn. Just goddamn. The Departed is a great story and, because of the ensemble cast, my favorite Scorcese...but TDK just blends genres so brilliantly, and the dualism throughout the movie is just superbly depicted. Batman and the Joker simply trump all in the area of epic conflicts. That's where my vote goes.

It's Departed by a mile in my opinion.

I don't know why, but I don't like The Departed, I prefer Infernal Affairs. And because of these, it's a easy choice for me

I really don't think The Departed is anywhere as good as The Dark Knight. I own both of them, and after watching them quite a few times, I'm convinced The Dark Knight is just somethin' else. It's a special film.

With or withou HL, The Departed is a better film.

I enjoyed them both, but I am going to have to go with The Departed as well. I felt its story kept me more interested than TDK. There were a few points in TDK where I felt it could have ended and I would have been happy with the conclusion, but it just kept going.

Ugh. Decisions, decisions. Going to have to go with the Oscar winner.

the best movie in the batman-universe. not only because of heath ledger as 'the joker'...

Leo had a better performance but TDK wins out.

dark knight, no question.

The Dark Knight wins this but it's still pretty close. The Departed is an expertly crafted film as well. And I don't understand how The Departed is a remake of GoodFellas for kids.

Two amazing crime films by two of my favorite directors. The Batman gets the win.

tdk has ledger, departed has the best actor of all time. The departed is just a better movie because of tdk's plotholes

Tough one here, but I'm going with TDK.

The Departed is my favourite Scorcese film to date, but The Dark Knight wins by the slimmest of margins.

the departed was a great film but TDK WAS BETTER

The Departed

DiCaprio is my favorite actor but even his presence in a movie can't top The Dark Knight!

The Departed sucked balls. One of Scorsese's weakest movies. Infernal Affairs blew it out of the water. The Dark Knight blows both of them out of the water and then goes further. And I just want to say to (yazi), that his comment is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Without the Joker there would've been no Dark Knight. Nolan created and wrote the entire film around the Joker character. If there were no Joker, there would've been no Dark Knight.

The Departed was an underwhelming remake of a true masterpiece - Infernal Affairs. The characters are poorly developed, their is a needless relationship forced into it, not a single character (other than Leo) shows a shred of emotion (Matt Damon in particular is so lifeless) and it completely skips the spinning vortex of hell that Infernal Affairs so beautifully portrayed. The ending is just terrible and Jack Nicholson is so darn annoying. And the guy, above, who said he preferred the Departed because of the Dark Knight's plot-holes. What he doesn't realise is that Departed is the one that's absolutely riddled with plot holes whereas Nolan's Dark Knight just suffers from few inconsistencies. Whether the Dark Knight is a masterpiece or not is debatable but it sure beats the crap out of the Departed.

I liked Departed better than TDK because the Departed is better

I liked Departes better than TDK because the Departed is better

The departed wins easily

I've got to go with Batman here. Both are top 20 movies.

Dark Knight wins this.

Ledger not only managed to top Nicholson's performance as the Joker (which jack was 'in name only'), he managed to completely obliterate any performance Jack has ever given in his entire career, this included.

The Departed is my preference! ...but Dark Knight is still a greater movie and as good.

The Dark Knight is that special.

The two best films of the 2000s. Going with The Departed by a hair.

@SquareMaster316 Jack Torrance, Randle McMurhpy, and Jake Gittes are all as good as Ledger's Joker.

I love The Departed, but I think The Dark Knight edges it out

@SquareMaster316 That is a huge exaggeration. Nicholson's performance in The Shining, The Chinatown, and One Flew over The Cuckoo Nest are on the same level if not outright better. Ledger's just had an explosive performance, it doesn't make it the outright best. But yeah, his performance was better than Nicholson's performance as Frank Costello. I would say The Departed loses, but it is close

The Dark Knight has one of the greatest villains of all time, but The Departed's characters as a whole are more memorable for me. So The Departed wins here.
