This is most certainly the hardest decision I've had to make on this site. It's come up a few times and I think I've chosen each one the same number of times. The Departed may be a slightly better movie.

The departed won best Oscar mearly as a consolation prize for Scorsese's goodfellas losing in '90. Babel is the better, more important film that serves as an allegory for universal disconnection. Babel wins easily
