Ooh! Interesting pairing. Both of these films suffer from similar writing problems. Altho Playing By Heart is really more bits and pieces of short stories cobbled together, and That Thing You Do is one story about several band members each doing their own thing, by the last reel one feels manipulated by a synthesized formulaic premise given the illusion of complexity by pretending its more than the sum of its parts. I liked them both, but I wanted to love them, and I doubt I'll ever revisit either of them. Replay ability is a big thing w/me on a list like this. I'm only choosing "Dancing About Architecture" cuz That Thing You Do doesn't have Gillian Anderson and Jon Stewart in it. But these two movies should have to share the same number on a list like this.
