I really like the dark atmosphere in both, but I like the way the story unfolds in Zodiac.

Agreed. Zodiac is just a first-class motion picture chockfull of riveting performances and a story worth investing in.
Just watched Sicario and thought it was outstanding in so many aspects. But as good as it was, Zodiac is something else for me entirely. One of my favorite film experiences ever.
