The Band Wagon vs. La La Land

This is hilarious because the song and dance number with the Hollywood hills in the background in La La Land put me in mind of the Dancing in the Dark sequence in The Band Wagon—a comparison that doesn’t work out in La La Land’s favor. Dancing in the Dark May be the most beautiful partnered dance in film, whereas that number in La La Land...well. I’m not as enamored of The Band Wagon as I used to be—it’s really just two great dance sequences attached to a mediocre film—but La La Land is mediocre throughout, and not nearly as impressive if you’ve seen a good deal of musicals and showbiz dramas/romances.
