The Incredible Hulk vs. Amélie

Easily Amelie

Maybe it was the fact that I saw Amelie after I had already seen far superior movies in Audrey Tautou's oevre, but Amelie just felt such a long-winded, trite slog through foreign cinema in the name of emotion that felt so artificial. I'm not saying that the Edward Norton final cut of Incredible Hulk was Truffaut or Kurosawa, but I just found the entire proceedings more genuine than absolutely anything that happened in Amelie to the point that even the villains were more likable than the leads and incidental characters of Amelie. To be fair, I probably fault Amelie for falling well short of the hype that surrounded it following its theatrical release and there was probably no way that it was going to live up to the undying affection that every young woman in my life showered it with upon its release, but I know myself and I know my tastes well enough to know that I genuinely will take a second rate superhero or action movie over long-winded,saccharine foreign cinema for dummies.
