Alita handled the adaptation of the source material so much better.

Which is not saying much. A:BA is gorgeous to behold and has some truly wondrous set-pieces, but any time the characters open their mouths, it's obvious that this is a cheesy international port of a very typically cheesy anime. It's as if a whole host of anime writers went to the same school of horrendously bad dialogue and hand-holding exposition.

Controversial opinion, but I actually prefer Alita over Ghost in the Shell. Alita may not be the deepest or most original sci-fi film, but it was genuinely fun and I even found a couple scenes somewhat moving. Ghost in the Shell tries to be a much more profound meditation on what means it to be human, yet it all came off feeling very cliché and pretentious to me.

Garbage movies BOTH.

Alita DESTROYS Ghost in the Shell to become the first legitimately good Hollywood adaptation of a manga with great fight scenes and a likable lead

Alita smashes....
