The Dyatlov Pass Incident vs. Chernobyl Diaries

Very similar movies - giving the nod to Dyatlov; somewhat more effective scares. Neither are great, though.

I found Chernobyl Diaries quite adept at building suspense, and I was pleasantly surprised at the number of jolts and even a few genuine laughs it was able to deliver for me. However, Dyatlov (which I saw under the unfortunately generic title "Devil's Pass"), similar enough in premise to be its spiritual sibling, is just a better overall package. It looks lovely (almost too lovely for what is ostensibly a found footage film), the characters are very engaging, and most importantly, it ties everything together in a way that is fresh and unusual and ultimately very satisfying, a key aspect in which the former fails almost entirely.
